Copper Forum Member's,

Please place all of your Echo Link Contact's / Post's here under this Topic or in the CEF Area as well as your comment's or times when you can be reached on Echo Link.

This will help us to keep other Areas / Topics on the Forum from getting way off the Topic and will help those who use Echo Link to Find / Locate the Posts much easier.

Thanks for your help,

Lon

It would be nice if we could get some of the people on the forum to hook up sometime.

Gijoe I had the chance to talk to Tech 808 who was saying he talked to you today. Sorry I missed you, maybe sometime we can get a round house hooked up.

By the way it was great talking to Tech 808 over Echo-Link he took care of a question I had on the board over the internet. Made things a lot easier.

Ok, I think I'm back on line with you guys, I'm not going to be able to do Echo-Link until I get my own tower repaired it crashed big time and I can't get any sound on my speakers on this borrowed very old PC tower. Might be sometime before I can get mine fixed, and get back on Echo-Link. 73, Carl CEF-357

Bc910,

First off you need a Cheap Computer Mic and a set of Speakers so you will be able to hear everyone.

Then log in to it and when you see someone and want to talk Click on thier Callsign.

Then use your Space Bar or click on the Lightining bar at the top Left to talk.

When you are done talking hit the space bar or click on the lightning bar.

Then let us know exactly what kind of problems you are having when you try it and let us know if it works.

Gijoe will also be making a post to help you further.

Bc910,

If you double click on someones call sign and you don't connect, try running this troubleshooter program. http://www.echolink.org/troubleshooter.htm It's a small program that will check your system and put an icon on your desktop. Double clicking on the icon will open up a notepad with detailed results. Any failed item needs attention before you can use Echo Link.

If you are able to connect, scroll down the list of stations until you see the icon of a persons head then look for a ham callsign of a forum member, double click and start talking.

Post a time that you will be on Echo Link and I will look for you.

Guess who's back on Echo-Link, have this old PC tower figured out and I'm ready to talk to all you fine gentlemen and Ladies on Echo-link again. The problem was the microphone input and speaker output jacks are not marked, so I started playing on Echotest and after a bit had it working.

Lon I saw you earlier on Echo-Link, and lost my cable connection. Anyway I will be on and off all day each of the days over this holiday weekend.

I was also wondering if anyone knows what happened to Yankee. I was talking to him the other day and I had to go to the dentist. He's usually on a good part of each day and he hasn't been out there lately.

Hope to make a few contacts this weekend

Well I've just about tried all the stuff I know and this echolink is becoming rather enegmatic.
Every time I try to connect, the message says that I disconected and that I've timed out!
Yankee says that I'm making a connection but it seems to be a one way connection.
I down-loaded the trouble shooter and it suggests the problem is in either the firewall or in the modem(not configured to accept UDP ports 5198 and 5199 ?
anyone have a suggestion?

The_rev I don't know what type of set up you have. Some ISP's do not allow UDP connections by default. Or maybe you have a firewall or router. If it's a router you can call the manufacturere and they can tell you how to configure it. If it's a Linksys BEFSR41 I might be able to help. But if you have a firewall, the firewall should have had a popup window saying that echolink or such and such device is trying to access the internet and you either approve or not. If you dissallow the conection you might have to go into the firewall and find the notice and try to reset it. But this is all guess work without knowing if you have any of the above mentioned items or not. If you don't have a router or firewall and have a cable or DSL modem call your internet provider and ask them for help. By the way if you have the XP firewall enabled get ahold of the service pak and it will take care of allot of problems. If you have a fast internet connection you can download it, other wise you can get the CD from Microsoft.

Bob_p,after going through everything with Lyncsys and Direcway, setting everything as needed to access Echolink I still get the same thing, timed out.setup a dialup account for the laptop and dialup serv is too poor out here to connect.I guess my last resort is to pick up a 2 meter radio and see if there is a echolink repeater I can access from here.

Dindin That really sounds like it might be the XP firewall. I forgot to ask but are you running XP?
If so go to my computer right click on the c drive click properties then click on the sharing tab on the top. Then look on the lower left to see where it says view your windows firewall settings and click the text to open. If it is set to recommended try downloading the Service Pak. If you want to try it to see if thats the problem turn it off and try Echo Link. If that solves it you can either download the Service Pak and install order the CD or turn off the Firewall while your on Echo Link.

Thats about all that comes to mind right off hand after what we have already talked about. The other thing is it could be the ISP doesn't allow UDP if you have a broadband modem. Then if that is the case they should be able to tell you how to configure it so you can use Echo Link if they are at fault.

Bob,3 of the computers have 98se and one has xp.both Lyncsys and Direcway(satellite isp)agree that the way the network is set up that the xp firewall only serves the dell which it is installed.have tried a 3com hub in place of the router but to network the home with it requires all traffic to run through the dell as a server.cant convince the other half to do that(dell is hers).

Hi Dennis just got your message on the radio.

It sounds like your network is setup right having a router do the work as a DHCP server is the way to go. I honestly can't think of any thing other than maybe some software installed firewall that could be causing your problem with echolink. Norton firewall or internet security software will not allow echolink to work at all. I had it installed and it just blocked it without letting me make a choice. So if you have Norton dissable that and then try. I'm going back to the radio to try to get ahold of you.

CEF and Copper Forum Members,

I have had several CEF Members ask about having a Weekend time to Meet on ECHO LINK.

Any suggestions for a time, (Morning or Evening)? or day (SAT or SUN)?

It would probably be better to try and find a time on Saturdays as on Sundays we have the 4 CEF Nets Running.

Let's see how many would be interested in this.
