I'm having a problem with high SWR's when I hook up my linear amp to my radio. When I disconnect my linear and use just my radio my SWR's are fine. Any suggestions? |

Does that amp have a tuned input? If not then naturally you are going to see a high swr through it. Key words TUNED INPUT. Check with the manufacturer to see. |

What are your swrs with the amp? What length jumpers are you using? I would start with the jumpers. Might have a bad pl connector. Or you might try different lengths. Use multiples of 3. 3',6',9'.etc.......... |

need more details-base or mobile, amp-radio-meter-antenna, more importantly, if hooked up correctly, what are swr's with radio only inline, amp inline and OFF, amp inline and on, etc |

I have a DX93T Galaxy mobile radio with Wilson 5000 antennas. My SWR's with just the radio inline are 1.5. With the linear the radio's high SWR alert comes on and I get a steady 3. |

swr's of 3:1 usually indicates a ground problem. what amp are you using w/93T? 1-2290 trans is a lot of input unless everything is set up right. if the radio works fine with amp PHYSICALLY REMOVED circuit , but replacing it into circuit brings swr's to 3:1, then i'd guess the jumper between radio and amp is no good. are you using separate swr meter BETWEEN amp and antenna,(i don't know if 93t has built in swr meter-if it does, don't use it) put a shooting star 225 amp in a car once w/ss3900, amp wasn't right because it made swr go up and showed 50% reflected power on yaesu wattmeter, put texas star modulator back inline and everything was fine. returned shooting star and got another, and everything was fine. |

What vehicle is this in? I'm assuming these are mirror mounts? I would start off by checking all pl connectors and grounding everything. Ants, radio, amp, etc. |

If you have a 1.5 SWR with the radio alone, youre pushing your luck. To run a linear safely you should have a 1.3 or better with the linear inline but POWERED OFF. If youre gonna run HEAT with a 1.5...youre gonna blow the linear. If it was a coax or jumper issue, your SWR's would be higher than 1.5, so you probably have an antenna ground issue. If youre using a mirror mount and have mirror heat, the mirrors can be either a neg or a pos ground. Isolate your antenna bracket with rubber sheeting(a piece of a bicycle tire inner tube is perfect) or wrap the mirror bar with duct tape. Put your bracket on that..Run a ¾" braided ground strap from any nut on the antenna bracket and run it down to the frame of the vehicle. Better yet to a nut on the radiator. Worked for me on a Mack "Granite" |
