Does anyone have one of these?
Good Bad or Ugly?
Sounds like a neat and useful toy to have.
Any input would be apreciated.
Thanks
Mark

I have had one for awhile and it has been used to put up a bunch of antennas for all freqs. I wouldn't be without one now that I have found out how handy they are.

Where can you get them? I have wanted one for a while and can't find a distributor, if they still exist.

I have one. I like it. Makes a nice 'disposable' instrument I can send up a tower for testing and not worry if it gets broke (like my 25K buck analyzer).

What do they do and do you need one?

Well first what do they do?

An antenna analyzer is a device that you screw into your coax in place of the radio. It produces a low power output carrier signal on a band that you determine. There is a vfo on the analyzer that you can scan thru. As you scan the frequencies the device senses the SWR via a meter or digital readout and displays the SWR as you slowly scan. By observing the SWR readout you can not only determine which frequency results in the lowest SWR BUT you can in making observations see how wide of a useful bandspread the antenna has.

Do you need one?

Well first off the devise in not inexpensive. Neither is it a major investment either. IF you do a lot of antenna work or volunteer to help a buch of others with their antenna then absolutely you should consider one. IN FACT, they used to make one where you set the lower frequency to scan and the upper frequency and the device auto scanned between the two and displayed a visual liquid crystal graphic display of the SWR curve. VERY nice and neat. IF you can find one of these you might want to consider getting this Delux model.

If you are a casual antenna tinker guy then given the price compared to the actual use Hmmm might I suggest you invest the money in an upgrade on a standard SWR meter--say a PEP model with a dual cross needle meter display. Or perhaps one with a nice digital display.

Conclusions:

Well I will leave that up to YOU and your pocketbook. ;-)
