what is the maximum power you can get out of a galaxy dx44v? last week i took my galaxy to a local tech. he told me he got 30watts out of the radio. he said that was the most power the radio can handle alone. that if i wanted more power he can add a modulator with match finals or even add a speech processor inside. do you think that will add more power or punch to the radio without harming it?

a speach processor is the way to go.. if he does it right it can act like a little linear/modulator.. i have one on my 142gtl.. an it make s a world of difference.. as for adding a mod an finals to it.. i think that would work but it would burn the radio out faster.. my opioin go with the proseccor give you the punch you need..

i dont see how a sigle final radio is capable of 30 watts. my 66 does dk7watts pep 18watts . if it were me think i would detune too 18watts then get a klv 40 or even the klv 60 ull have much clearer audio and your radio will last longer.

35w pep is about the max for the single final radios, although i did see one of the galaxy single final radios do 38wpep before.

the high levels of pep power is not what damages these radios as much as the high carrier levels (excess of 8w for single final radios). -but- at these higher levels of pep, the trans are out of their linear range, and distortion is increased(had to throw this in to be honest and for the -purist-)

btw, i do not measure power with the dosy or astatic meters, i only use calibrated service monitors for my power readings, so i am sure that they are correct(had to also throw this in b4 someone tells me these power levels are b.s.).

hi tech 8541. when you go over certain number of watts on the galaxy 44 you get distortion thats on the modulation right? or what kind of distortion are you talkink about? (since i took the radio to the local tech i have distortion on my modulation i tought it was the mic i've been changing mics like crazy with no answer) what do you or anybody recomend me? get the watts down to 1 or 2 and buy an amp or what would be the best to do? thank you for your comments.

What would I do..?
-get another tech
-set deadkey at 1.5 to 2 watts
-get a "re-tune" done
-there are several good, small amps: Palomar, KLV, Texas Star, etc, that are easy to connect.
-if you wanted something bigger: X-Force, Magna-Force, Sno-Cap, etc, that will provide as much power as you can afford.
But, be careful, once you start, it is a sickness........
