I posted this on ask the tech, thought i'd post here too(if I shouldn't double post go ahead let me have it)
Here goes
I'm trying to tune two Fire Sticks on my big truck,Grounded,changed mounts ,changed coax ect. I finally got my Cobra 25 to 1.3-1.05-1.3, when I hook up my MagnumS3 it goes to 3.2-2.8-3.5.
Lost and confused, any help would be apreciated.

OK did someone PEAK UP that s-3? if so borrow a tvi filter and hook it to the radio before the swr bridge and remeasure. If the transmitter is dirty the filter will REDUCE the swr. |

did you try S3 on a different antenna setup-in a base or another mobile where you know swr's are good? are swr's on cobra still good after hooking up S3? try disconnecting 1 of the firesticks and using a separate piece of coax for it, hook up both radios and see what kind of swr's you get on just 1 antenna. anything else in line, like amp or anything? did it turn on & swr's go up? jumpers good?

If you are using a SWR meter inside each radio, that may be the problem. One of the internal SWR meters is a bit off. If this is the case you may want to try the same external (in-line) SWR meter for consistency and a more objective SWR reading. If you are already using an in-line meter... I tried :-).

Hmmmm the Cobra operates of CB frequencies and as such the antenna in question would match pretty good out of the box as they are made for CB use.
the S3 on the other hand if unfodified operates on a much different band, the 10 meter band.
The 10 meter band is higher in frequency and would require a retune of the antennas to operate there. Probably your best for a good match would be to get an antenna that you can retune via a snip of a top whip. Copper has several such antennas in their antenna list.

Remember that if you operate in the 10 meter band be sure to have the proper Ham License. |

The radio is converted,
I hooked up both to a single RG58 20' with a dummy load, both have 1:1 across the channels. The cophase coax is 18' wilson product with Beldin RG8X? they say 72 OHM cophase harness, I thought RG8X was 50 OHM?
with 2 dummy loads the cophase cable I get 1.3:1 across the channels.
