First off, I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving day and all ate well. Now for questions to begin. I know I will ge getting a used Galaxy Melaka for Christmas. It was won off of and auction(you can probably guess whitch one) and I did get to run it for a few days before I had to take it to my Mothers house. Every thing is ok on it except for one thing, the clarifier seems to be a bit shallow so to speak. The range of the clarifier does not seem to be what it needs to be for side band. I found all of the mods for this particular radio here on the Copper site including the mod to open the clarifier. The problem is, on the inside of the radio there are some wire conections that are not in the pics of the clarifier mod. There were several mods done to this radio befor it came to me. Channel conversion, 10k switch, variable power, there has also been another freq counter hook up put in, one for a fc340 type freq counter and it looks as if there has been an atemped at a clarifier mod but if it is a clarifier mod it does not seem to be right as the clarifier will not adjust enough for good side band. Should the mod I have from here be tried as is or should I seek help from one or more of our Techs here. Also what frequency counter will hook up to the stock hook up on the back of this radio, I do not know if this hook up is even still working. I have heard some good things about Tech8541's work. I am interested in trying this mod(clarifier)myself. But all opinions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
Excope,CEF386,

PS. I can't spell worth.

Excop,I would first attemp to restore the clarifier back to original and give it a try.Are you referring to widening the range of the clarifier or unlocking it to vary the transmit?

I was gonna say the same thing Din.. try to undo the present clarifier mod and try to get it working properly before attempting anything else.

Well Dindin, it would have to be unlocking it to vary the transmit. The Mag-257 I am running now as my base has no problem on side band but the Melaka seems as if it does not have the range I am looking for.
