Now that the Christmas rush is in it's last week, I for one am looking forward to the slow month of January. Working at Radio Shack at this time of the year is tough. The long hours alone have my poor feet screaming! *G* Anyways, I hope you all got your shopping done. But more importantly, let's hope those buying for us have gotten their shopping done!!!

Hey, I was in Radio Shack last night and was surprised to see 4 actual CB's for sale! They had a New Cobra Night Watch model and a new RS Model and I think a couple of the small Uniden's and a couple Handhelds to boot! But gone are the days when they had shelves lined with radios.

Wow....Kirk I agree!

As for working there, I am the backroom guy, ie the Stockman. I unload the boxes and put the stuff out on display. I also help folks with the bigger items out to their cars. And yes, I can help out when needed. But I get paid by the hour. So I give all my sales to the ones that get paid by commission.

And I think Radio Shack is still a good place. But most of them just have staff who don't know that much about the items they sell. We have a bigger store then most. And the folks working here have been here for some time.

And yes, WE DO HAVE ANSWERS!!!!!

Up here in the mountains they have a few over priced CB's and at least 1, 2-meter ht. But cellphones are what they seem to be pushing nowdays. I wish I had bought one of the 10 meter rigs that they discontinued last year. They had them for as little as $50.00 if I remember right.

Yes, Y'all come on into Radio Shack and get this great new flip phone that replaces CB and ham radios, now let me take you over here and sell you a computer or a TV. Now over here we have all these self distruct radio control toys for Christmas and don't forget the batteries. What's that sir you're looking for a matched pair of 6JE6B tubes,Ahh! sir we don't carry any of these tubes what ever they are. By the way sir, what are tubes? Yes, we have answers. Kinda makes you wonder. It isn't Radio Shack anymore.

Radio Shack lost what ever they had when they stopped selling the good quality stereo equipement and first line electronics parts, now Walmart is a step above and the largest retailer in the world. Walmart is the major stock holder in many retail outlets. I watched the decline of Radio Shack over the past say 15 years, their biggest set back is when they went to marketing mostly cellphones and that's about all they have left in their favor to keep them above water. What is Radio Shack going to do when the flip-phone craze burns out? A flip-phone will never replace my life-long radio hobby. Early 2005 starts 43 years as a CBer and 3 years a licensed amateur radio operator. Yes, 43 years and I haven't outgrown it. Each contact is an enjoyment. 67 years old and still a kid every time the DX starts rolling in.

I think they're trying to get away from radio. Not too long ago they tried to call themselves "The Shack" rather than Radio Shack. I think that was an attempt to shift their name recognition (which is still huge) away from their radio origins. They still own that URL.

When I worked there the head of Radio Shack was trying to steer their inventory away from selling parts and Radio Shack branded electronics to selling name brand consumer electronics, computers, and computer parts. I think he's generally succeded.

The sad thing is, if Radio Shack would again embrace their radio roots and carry good radios, antennas, and accessories they could dominate the market. I know when I worked there FRS radios had just come out and people came into Radio Shack to buy them (often several at a time) even though they were sold at WalMart and other mass merchandisers. The warehouse didn't have enough FRS radios to supply us with! We sold a couple dozen a day when we had them, and could have done that every day through the Christmas season. These were the Radio Shack models that each took 4 "AAA" batteries and had dip switches in the battery area to change the channel. Cumbersome to use if you needed to QSY and they ate batteries like crazy. Why did people buy them? Because Radio Shack is what people think of when they want to buy radios.

Now I don't even know anyone who buys computers or radios from Radio Shack unless they are on clearance. I shop for clearance stuff there myself, and rarely buy anything at full price.

I gave up on Radio Shack years ago! When you walk in there now, you are overwhelmed by at least 2 of the 8 people they put in there! You cant look around without being followed and asked a thousand times "can I help you?" And what really turned me off was that they always tried to sell floor model garbage as new! And actually get an attitude when I would ask for one in the box! The genius would always respond,” It has a warranty". I’m shocked they are still in business!
There as a website devoted to the downside of RS,But it was forced to be shut down by RS it seems! It was funny to read what employees had to say!
