Guys, a lot of talent here and I have a question. I'm currently deployed overseas and I had my Alinco DR605 shipped over to use on uhf in my vehicle, 462 - 475. It is doing 15 watts, antenna checks out but performance is poor. TX and RX range is very short, and we tried other antennas. The 4 watt handhelds out talk it and when using PL code, it breaks up and barely keys up the repeater. It barely talks to a GMRS handheld. All freqs are properly programed, it works fine on VHF but on UHF, the higher freques in this range give me problems. Anyone experience this problem or have I done something wrong.

Thanks and hope back on the net one day!

hummmmm ..... your using it out of band could be its simply at its bandwidth limits you might retune it.

I would check your SWR. Are the antennas tuned for this frequency? Go with a mono-band if you are only using that range.

I also agree with Bruce.

Thanks guys, I think you are right, it's an out of band issue. Seems to work fine, but very shory range with no PL, when I program PL, it goes to pieces. Thought these radios would do OK in this freq range but looks like I need another option.

thanks all, 392

How does it work in the amateur band? If it works fine, I'd tend to agree with the others and say it's too far out of band.
