Trick out a Connex? It's simple;

Step 1: sell it

Step 2: use money to buy a new S9 from Copper

DONE!

Dont even go there Bc, I have a 4800, and it is as fine a radio as I have ever owned. I personally would not even think of trading my radio for an S9. Did you have a bad experience with one? I have a number of friends that have them, and swear by them.

stand back, bc, i'll save ya-
have taken sledgehammer & soldering iron to connex 4800dxl, cobra 148fgtldx, ranger 6900ftb and texas ranger ???(forget which one, early model am/ssb w/6 digit freq counter)
all have respectable rcvrs, dx radios excellent freq coverage, efficient ease of operation and pretty good xmit/audio sections. ahhhh, there's the fly in the ointment, pretty good audio. not smoke blowin' ---kickin' loud audio, but good audio. sure, it's sufficient for most, but it wasn't sufficient for me. don't have 1 right now for a side by side, but i do believe the S9's receive is more sensitive AND quieter, and, except for the 100 watt advantage of the 6900ftb, the STOCK S9 pretty much outtalks the others. for that matter, my grant XL regularly shows a 148fgtldx how to talk long distance....
you just couldn't leave well enough alone, could you bc, next time, trick 'em like i did-CALL it a great radio, us S9 owners know the real deal!

Speaking of Connex. I have to say that I owned a Connex 3300 at one time and it was absolutely the loudest and cleanest sounding radio I have ever owned. I had quite a shack back then and also ran a RCI 2950, Ham International Jumbo, Galaxy Saturn 5 Star, and a Galaxy 44, and the Connex was the one that could get out there and touch someone the best. I had it set up so that with the variable power I would key up around 1 watt and it would swing up to about 8 watts. The audio was very clean on that radio. Of all that I have ever sold/traded, I wish I could get that old Connex 3300 back!!!
