I have 150 feet of Lmr-400 cable ordered with ends installed. It was already made up that way and I didn't want to spend $50 more dollars for 200 ft. I will need 20 to 30 feet of some other coax to make the total length. I'm hoping to use mini 8x to run into the house. The mini8x will be barrel connected to the larger coax outside at some point. I do plan on the shortest run of the mini 8x. Question: will these two coaxes mix and work ok?

Mike we "MIX" lmr-400 and RG-58 or mini 8 all the time use a reducer like a UG-175 or 176 depending on what coax you use it will work just fine |

I have a similar situation... I want to find some female connectors to hook up to my male pl-259's instead of barrels because im using barrels at the moment, and I beleive they are the cause of high swr when power is added. |

the only difference here is that the lmr400 shielding provides 90db of isolation and the mini8 only provides 40db of isolation.....meaning that the mini8 has a much higher chance(but still really good shielding) of radiating rfi into/receiving from external equipment. |

Thanks for the replies. I will position the barrel connected portion so I can get to it at least with ladder in case I have problems. I intended to run a solid coax in the beginning of this new instalation and also to run smaller coax. I got concerned about signal loss and did my homework and came up with LMR-400 as my long run to the new Imax 2000, I hope to have up next weekend. I guess it became a compromise, but not much of one since I'm still going to have to use 20 or 30 feet of RG8x. Anyway, my losses in signal should be much less than the original plan. I almost listened to a guy in town who pushed me to use RG8x for the total run (170 or 180ft). Copper forum member convinced me to go with the good stuff. Loss should not be more than 1.6 db over the entire run now. I want that Imax to receive as much signal as it reasonably can and do it's thing. I know my coax situation will be better than 90% of the setup around here.
