There is nothing wrong with the cobra 148 new or old. NOW some beleve the older ones are better ....they may be ... but the new 148's work just fine.

I like my Cobra 148 GTL that I purchased in 1997, I only have around 12 hours on it.

jimmy,I run the "new origional 148" in my work van, it's one of the best radio"s i've ever had!!, I ran Galaxy's for a while, 3 or 4 different ones ,the 148 has better recieve by far!!I run it with a Wilson 1000 mag mount& a palomar 250, it's great on am or ssb, talked a lot of skip at lunchtime,I would'nt hesitate to buy another!!!

A friend of mine is looking to buy a mobile radio with sideband. He's elderly and doesn't know which radio to buy. He'll be using it only when traveling once in a while. Any suggestions?

the only thing I done to mine was turn up the modulation & drop it to 2 watts to run an amp.I bought it locally, brand new. another nice radio I have is the Ranger 296 GK, it's compareable to the 148, it's really sharp with the gold trim& knobs!!!It's on Coppers list also.
