Freebird,

Strange? not really, Sorry but I would guess that almost 90 to 95% of them that were made have long since been scrapped.

And the ones that do still own them are saving the parts & extra parts or selling them at a very, very high price.

I would say that most of them are in the hands of collectors and in like new condition. There is even a club of the Cobra 2000 GTL collectors, I just did a websearch and got nothing. I do know where there is a real nice one, looks the same as the day it came out of the box, this unit was well cared for and the mod doesn't show. has one speaker.

Re Bird guy...

Most knobs on radios fall into one of a handful of categories. Some are half moon based. Some are split based with little catch grooves.

IF IF IF you cannot locate the originals try to find a set from another kind of radio that has enough knobs to complete a set and which fit on your radio. Just switch out a partial original set (sell them to those who need one knob) for a complete set that fits.

I remember seeing the cobra radio in the radio misc section that has gold knobs. Perhaps these will work. OR you could just get a set of the standerd silver knobs from another radio. Spray paint them with that gold chrome paint, followed by a light spraying of clear cover paint (perhaps satin for that antique look) and use these modified knobs to give the rig that look of class.

Later

Ashtray,

A used radio is ONLY worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

And if they are Happy, then that is all that counts.

I'd really like to get hold of a mint Cobra 2000 myself, but I don't think I'd ever spend more than what they sold for when they were being made. They really are VERY nice radios. I don't know why base radios have moved toward the rack mount style when the console style of the Cobra 2000 is so nice to use.

Racer_X,

All you have to do is use the internet to search for one or keep checking the Internet Auction Sites.

I hear ya, Racer X...I'd like to get one myself. Just to have one, ya know?

For now I'll be happy with my president madison. I'm a big fan and collector of old president radios. Once I satisfy that craving then maybe I'll move on to the cobras.

Madisons are great radios. They're basically the same as a Cobra 2000 - just no frequency counter.

I can't bring myself to spend money on another radio unless I get a really good deal, so I probably won't get a 2000 anytime soon.

Oh yeah Dogfacedsoldier...I got 'em. I posted that in the thread where I asked for them. They were exactly what I needed. Thanks for your help bringing the Dwight D one step closer.
