I run a Connex 3300HP with a FatBoy 5 pill. Let me tell ya, "It walks the dog". When I got hurt at work and was out for a few months. I took it all out of my fleet truck and hooked it up in my 4 wheeler. I got so used to it in my 4 wheeler, I'm want to buy another radio for my truck and keep stock and barefoot. I love the 3300HP but since I'm going to buy another I can upgrade. Due to security reasons I cant leave anything in the truck even if it's locked. So, just the radio would be easy to remove every night...I'm hearing about the Connex 4300 and 4600 turbo.I dont really need a freq.counter and I only run on am band. Anybody have a comparison thought of which would be a better performing radio to run, between the 3300HP...4300 and the 4600turbo?

Thats a tough question. All 3 would be an excellent choice. The HP models have the most power. I have never heard of the 4600 turbo....Yet.

Coyboy,

I'm seriously thinking about buying the 4300HP.
I don't use sideband much so I want to take the TR296 out of the pick up and put the 4300HP in it's place. I love my General Lee that I run as a base, and the 4300 is supposed to be even better.

I think you will make the right choice. Most drivers who know radios chose Connex. You can never go wrong with a Connex regardless the model. Hotwires personal opinion.

Has anyone ever heard of the Connex 4600 Turbo? Is there a way to contact Connex? I heard a few guys on the CB talking about the 4600, but couldnt reach them.

Hey guys me too. I have searched and searched and found nothing. I hope Your right Rich. I don't want to get to excited but I'm really getting curious as to what Connex is doing to compete against some of these other all mode radios.

I just talked to a local CB shop and they said that the 4300HP is on back order because Connex is working out an overheating problem.

Coyboy Bob, thanx for the email.

I found out the info on the 4600 TURBO on a website that shall remain nameless... #1 its made by Ranger... #2 its exactly like the 4300HP except the 4600 Turbo has DUAL 2SC2290's that has been measured on the "Bird" to do 150 PEP.... Supposedly going to be released in 2 or 3 months

This is the latest information that I have on the Connex 4300HP 10 Meter Amateur Radio.

The newest radio in the Connex line - and the highest output power! Hidden inside the radio is a single 2SC2290 transistor that delivers up to 70 watts peak power. Blue meter & channel lights set this apart from the others.

Pre-wired for FC 390 Accessory Frequency Counter
Small Meter with Scales for Signal Strength and Power Output
Red/Green Transmit LED
Noise Blanker/ Automatic Noise Limiter
Echo Board with Dual Controls
Switched Talk Back Circuit
AM/FM/PA Modes
Variable Power Control
2~25 Watts Maximum Power Output AM. Peak 70 Watts

Note

They have already been released and have been on the market since mid-january.

I hope this helps to clear some things up.

10-4 Lon,

They are being described as " A General Lee on steroids" I'm still wondering how many people who have them are experiencing the overheating problem. Maybe by the time I have the money for one, they will work out all the bugs.

all these new radios are making the amp builders a fortune! there are no commercially made amps that can handle the power of these new radios without self destructing! the 2-2290 radios will work with a texas star dx1600, & a dx1200 if the radio has variable & the operator lowers it correctly. the single 2290 radios are about right for the dx1200, again if lowered correctly. & not too many of them are willing to set up there vehicle to run 1000 watts, if it even has the ability to handle it. unfortunately it seems like most of the people that get these new high powered radios want an amp with 500 watts or less. it doesn't work right, sounds like garbage or they blow it up. then they're unhappy with the dealer or wherever they got their equipt from. they hate me when i tell them it's not compatible. then they say i want to have the biggest setup around. no. i just don't want to hear it when you blow it up. i run a 5 pill right now. you want to do 32, bring on the bucks & will have you rolling in a few days.
the S9 has been enough of a hassle to set right. these 50-100+ watt radios are for those who DON'T want to run an amp. if you want to run anything smaller then 8 transistors, get a 4 or 10 watt export only! or if 50 or 100 watts is what you want, then go for it. just forget the amp!
this is in no way a knock of any of those types of radios, and my personal preferences aside, this is a public service message. know what you're going to do with it before you buy it!

In my initial post, I stated I run a Connex 3300HP with a FatBoy 5 Pill Comp. I have my 3300 turned down to 3.8 watts on low power to run the linear. It does 1.1K......
Thats good enuf for me! LOL.....
Rule of thumb... Just get a good stock radio, get the mod turned up and let the linear do the work. Get a linear that will do the wattage you want, initially. Dont get a low power wattage amp and try to overdrive it to boost the PEP wattage. That's being greedy.. You'll end up blowing it!
