Hey Gage I do my mobile equipment about 2 times a year. My bases are covered up when not in use so not much trouble there. Its shocking to see how much debris can get inside a radio especially when in the mobile.

Think that radio gets messy inside? Most of you all probably know what the inside of a computer looks like after just a month or so of operation. Remember to blow those out too. Fry a CPU in no time when that heat sink and fan get clogged. Thank god for thermal shut off settings. Not to mention the power supply as well. Dust bunnies love to multiply rapidly in there.

It's a good idea, hard for me to stick to :-)
But I do it when I am not being lazy :-)
But "every few weeks"?
That seems a bit exsessive to me.
Just my 2 pennies.

Any equipment using fan's will accumulate dust a lot quicker. I realize most radio's probably don't have fan's so maybe twice a year on those would be more suitable. Any equipment using cooling fan's should be cleaned every month or two depending on usage. Computer's probably run more than radio's with cooling fans and really should be blown out every month, although even I'm negligent in this myself. I never think about it unless I have to open one up for some reason, then you go "oh my god, I'm surprised it didn't catch fire"

Maybe every few weeks if you live in the desert or something. I'm a bit lazt too. Coyote your are so right about heat. The arch enemy of all electronics. Oh yeah I learned long ago that cigarettes are cancerous to radios as well people! A radio coversd in nicotine is worthless to me. YUCK!!!

A favorite quote I got off the net said

"Heat cycling is the number one cause of electronic failure, followed closely by idiots with screwdrivers."

Yep that on hangs in my office!

hey i found some 4"X4" filters at the Napa that would fit rite up to the back of my comp for the fan !!! at 4 bucks its a time saver taking this thing out and blowing things out !
now the KLX1000P i cant find a filter that will still let the CFM into the amp with it on the back of it ! witch makes the amp HOT so ill stick to blowing it out every month !

but im lookig at a new line of washable filters that cost a little more but i think they have what im looking for ! and in the size i need !

Jason,

I use 1x16x20 Fiberglass Furnance filters on the back of my shelves to keep dirt & dust out and run the back of the KLV1000 and Radios right against it with no problems.

.89 at menards.

PLENTY of Air Flow and nothing attached to the equipment.
