I have a couple of cb friends who have radios almost just alike and the apparently the same problems. One owns a Commanche Warrior and the other owns a Cherokee 500. Both radios just stopped hearing. The s-unit meter moves just like they are receiving and they both transmit. We've tried different speakers. Have any of you had this problem? What did you do to fix it? Any suggestions will be appreciated.

If the problem is not the speaker, the problem will be a blown audio output transistor or IC. It shows up as either no sound at all, even though the s/rf meter is movin, or a very weak sound with volume turned all the way up.

Hope this helps!

Just for grins.... Have them plug an dexternal speaker into the radio's external speaker jack. If there is audio on the external speaker, the jack's contacts are dirty.

The external speaker jack may have shorted out causeing the internal speaker to stay off. Another thought to ponder........I have experienced with many many old radios the switches and knobs sometimes get dirty and oxidation inside causing bad performance. Sometimes the knobs are so bad that they become un operational or at least give a scratchy volume in and out.I would look inside for any rust, corrosion, gunk, crud. Oh and nicotine is a radios worst enemy. That smoke can go right inside your radio a little at a time and slowly destroy everything. Not a pro tech just a regular guy with experience and knowledge gained from everybody else.
