Just wanted to let everyone know how happy I am with the Magnum 257 and Imax 2000. I tell you this is a serious combination. I'm talking to mobiles barefooted (both of us) 30 miles away on am and base stations 50+ miles the way the crow flyes even in the daytime. The ears are great on this setup and the reports are loud and crisp without overmodulation. I also use SuperStar DM-452 as was suggested by Lon. Wonderful microphone. My antenna is about 65 ft+ at the base with the gdp/kit. A big thank you to Copper and the Techs and everyone who shares their experiences to help guys like me get 10-8.

with a superscanner ant. I have talked dx mid-west

MAGNUM 257 Modification

I was just trying to help out the guy with extra info.

I could understand editing out bad words or something, but why take out a link with helpful info?

Okay..I didn't understand...

That schematic is property of Magnum. They sent it to my buddy upon request...I didn't realize that it was copyrighted.

My bad. I'll actually take it off anyway..because most people wouldn't know what to do with it anyway.

Sorry for the misunderstanding..I was just trying to give the guy some good info on a mod that isn't really posted anywhere else on the net.

Okay...removed the copyrighted stuff..all good.

That mod is really easy and really can boost the audio of the Magnum 257 especially on AM since the AM audio is kinda quiet even with a good mic.

nice radio./ After hearing all these
glowing reports i may pick one up./ My

To me, if the 259 had that big round meter like the s-9 it would be the most perfect radio in the world. It is outstanding as it is. As the Monkees said in a song: "I'm a Believer."

Speaking of mod, I did the tune up on my 257 and she'll deadkey 10 or 11 watts and modulate 100% or more on my meter. It's not "nasty" loud, but it is described as loud and crisp and crystal clears.

Have any of you overmodded your radio to the point that it gets reports of being distorted or overmodulated? These radios just seem to have the best quality of audio. It is clearer than my Lincoln.
