I own a Galaxy 959. Besides the freq counter it is the same as the 949. They just look different. Both have sideband. The max power I get from my 959 is 30 watts. Variable 2-7 watt dead key swings 30 always. Excellent AM recieve. Transmit excellent. I am picky when it comes to sideband and I was very unhappy with the SSB recieve and transmit. As far as drift...my 959 drifted very bad and was always off freq. Some people love their Galazys and I respect that they are good radios. Great AM radios no doubt. I'll stick with Connex for premium SSB! OK hope this helps and oh yeah! This was only my opinion from my personal expierence with a 959. 73

Skilletlicker,

I’m running the DX959 with a D104-M6B to a 102” whip for my mobile rig. Drift, especially on SSB… Yep. The drift seems to be temperature dependant. I sent it back to Galaxy once for realignment and a Galaxy tech (unnamed of course) shared with me the Open clarifier modification. I did the oh, so simple CB Tricks Option #2 open clarifier mod and have been able to tune in and transmit on the same EXACT freq. Ever since.
As for power, I ordered the radio peaked and tuned from Copper and have had no complaints and no watt meter either. I can be heard by about 80% of the people who can hear me using this rig.
It works for me and I would buy it again. Oh, just for reference, I was running a Uniden PC 244 in the mobile before.
