Hey all this is a really great place with alot of information. I do have one complaint though. The forum is not the best layout. It would make it alot easier on new members and everyone to update it. I would suggest http://www.phpbb.com/ This is an open source project and so does not cost any money to use.

Thanks and keep up the good work.

We originally looked at PHPbb but it did not have moderation at the time.

Recently PHPbb was hacked and caused huge problems for its operators. Being free and used by a large number of web sites makes it a desirable target for hackers.

It would take a tremendous amount of work to convert our current setup to PHPbb's format. With almost a 100,000 messages and 3700 members we would have to move everything to a new system. We also have the chat room tied into the username table.

PHPbb doesn't offer any new features in functionality compared to our current system. In my opinion it would not be worth the effort for a minor change in looks.

Forummaster: No need to change anything. We, your Copper Forum members like the forum just the way it is, and thanks a lot for providing such a great service for the radio people.

Forum Master you didn't tell the whole story behind that hacking of the phpbb because the forum Admin failed to update the forum to the newer version.... that is why it got hacked because they fixed it and it was the part of the admin that didn't update it i haven't had any problems out of the new version of the phpbb.... and if that is the case what about Vbulletin

Redwolf_145,

After helping the Forummaster to set this Forum up and make sure everything worked, and change from the old forum and spending several hundred hours on the phone helping him, I personally think it is one of the best and well organized forums on the internet.

The Stats Below are from Feb 26th, 2005 and they have increased a Bunch since then.

COPPER ELECTRONICS FORUM

11 day Total Stats:

Successful requests: 1,115,642

Average successful requests per day: 121,018

Successful requests for pages: 43,456

Average successful requests for pages per day: 4,713

Data transferred: 9.420 gigabytes

Average data transferred per day: 1.021 gigabytes

With the Live Copper Chat Room involved 24/7/365 and the other many features the Copper Forum has to offer it needs to be a 100% Secure Forum to protect the members and the owners who own it.

And here you do not have to worry about the Forum Adminstrator failing to update the system as the Forummaster does it almost daily.

And I have been on the phone with him at times for 4 or 5 hours working out problems to make sure everything is working at 100% for the Copper Forum Members.

The more you use it the more you will like it.

On a side note there is about 40% of the forum that the members do not see and that is the areas for the Moderators to do reviews, manage the forum, edit and approve posts, and many other things that the Forum Members do not see or know about.

This is not new to the Copper Forummaster and the other owners as they have been at it for many years now and know what will and will not work.

Personally I spend between 12 and 16 to 17 hours a day working in the Forum here and enjoy it and the simplicity of using it and navigating thru it compared to many of the other forums I have visited and used over the last 20 years.

Just my personal thought's,

Lon
