Whoa, there.

You have stumbled across the dirty little secret of how this stuff is built. There have been at least two dozen different Cobra radios built with the digits "29" on them since around 1973 or so.

This wouldn't be so bad if there were a complete technical manual for each one of them. All you would need to do is figure out which one of 20-plus "production versions" to get a book for, and look it up, right?

Bad news in two ways: This kind of specific data for the actual version, factory (and country of origin) is kinda skimpy in the first place.
Second, the wire colors are almost never mentioned in any technical data, when you CAN get your hands on it. Yes, some of the Howard Sams' books would show a wire color here and there. Those books ceased publication in 1981. The odds predict that your radio isn't that old.

The folks who design this stuff apparently don't want to be stuck with using a particular color wire in any one place, I guess. They just don't include that in any but a small handful of service manuals. This leaves them free to make changes in their production, without having to keep track for your benefit.

Best bet is another specimen of the "same" radio. Meaning, one with the same aphabet soup(GTL/LTD/WX/ST/NW/PDQ) after the digits "29" AND the same country of origin, at the very least.

If your "comparison" specimen radio is different on any of those counts, wire colors may very well NOT match between them.

Oops...

Tshelburne5002,

On the Cobra 29LTD ST and 29NH ST
with the radio upside down and front facing away from you from Top to Bottom on the back of switch:

Left side------------Right Side

Open------------Orange
Black------------Black (Connected to both pins)
Open------------Red
Yellow------------Green

Hope this helps,

Lon
