thanks for the quick order..guys i got a problem. the car i'm instaLLING THE RADIO IN IS MOSTLY PLASTIC (SATURN) the only place that is metal is the hood, i guess i will have to use a mag mount on it.. |

Not sure what you ordered and what kind of antenna are you planning on using?
If it is a Trunk Mount Antenna you can run grounding wires from the Trunk Mount bracket thru the trunk to the frame for a ground.
Or make an Antenna Mount running from the Car Frame out past the Bumper to mount your antenna.
With the Plastic bumpers out on a lot of the cars now days that is the easiest way to mount antennas.

How do the no ground antennas perform? Use them on RVs alot. I think they use the coax for counterpoise. |

the problem is the back liftgate does not have any place to mount the ant. the only place i see would be the hood. passengers side like an indash radio would have used..not in the fender but at the edge of the hood.. |

I had a Jeep with a fiberglass top and got one of those RV No GP antennas (small cell phone looking whip) that use the coax for a counterpoise.
It worked and I got a mile or two on the highway. I needed a small tuner (MFJ $50.00) and I got a good =low SWR and another mile or two.
Bottom line is that I unhooked it, when I Could, and ran a 102" whip on the rear side -I could talk coast to coast.
I would unscrew the whip, and reconnect the NO GP roof antenna during the week.

Hey Carls86fiero, Have you thought about drilling? I know lots of people wouldnt think of drilling a hole in there vehicle. I have always used drill mounts. I think the permanent setup is best and I get killer ground. If you take your time and buy a good mount, take no shortcuts and plan everything out you will have no problems. I'm better at finding the right spot now. Some of my past vehicles have looked like swiss cheese. Maybe looks like I drove through a war zone. I found the best place for me is through the trunk so all coax is hidden and I can open the trunk to lower the antenna for low over passes. You can go through the roof at the dome light too. That works. Make sure you reinforce with a piece of sheet metal. Hoods and roofs get wobbly. Also when drilling on a large piece of sheet metal like a roof always keep a cool wet soaking rag and wipe the area to keep it cool so the roof does'nt warp. Other ideal is a ball mount on the fender but they sometimes require one huge hole so I stay away from them. I like the Wilson through roof mount, beehive, pineapple, lots of names for them. The wilson has a good rubber washer seal. I have never had not 1 problem with leaks NEVER! I hope this helps or at least gives ideas. Remember! You can never take your time to much. Always take you time. You will have great results in the end. |

thanks but i dont my Ex is going to let me drill holes in the roof. and this is a Saturn we are talking about. the roof of this car is plastic..the only thing made of metal is the hood. |

Yeah keep things cool metal chips melted holes in my head liner,geez 150 bucks for a new one,colored vinyl tape was alot cheaper.Bigbob |
