You Bet - Went through 3 Hurricanes last year and none were a Cat 5 - pack up and get out of town, then come home with a generator.

This hurricane is being likened to that of Camille, and is expected to bring catastrophic destruction. Anyone in its path from the landfall area inland in its path should prepare for the worst possible senario. They have already issued tropical wind advisories and flood watches in TN, if they have predicted its current path correctly, the remnants of this storm could bring torrential rains, destructive winds and tornados.

Boy this looks bad. I would get the heck out of New Orleans ! We hope and pray there is no life lost.

like Sinker, Dixie and I have went thru 3 hurricane last year, none a cat 5 but 2 was a cat 4 and know what thats like..
We hope and pray for the safey of all..

The middle TN area is expecting possible sustained winds of 35mph with gusts to 75mph possible. This along with the possibility of 3 to 5 inches of rain or more, we could most definitely be in for some serious flooding and power outages.
Everyone be safe and do not attempt to drive through high water. It only takes 2 inches of water to float a vehicle and carry it away.

By now everyone has already heard and have seen the destruction left behind. She now has her sights set on TN for tonite and early tomorrow. I will be about 70 miles east of the center of this storm. I'll let yall know how we fair when it is over. Winds are already picking up, we'll see how high they get before its over.

Louisiana, will be cleaning up the mess for a long time. It's nice that President Bush declared the state a disaster area become the hurricane hit land, and now that government funds are free to flow into the help/ relief effort, I'm happy. Now, Fema and the Red Cross can do their thing. Hopefully, there isn't a string of hurricanes waiting to follow Katrina and wreak more havoc. I prefer to see the glass as half full, instead of half empty. Hope for the state as far as I'm concerned, springs eternal.

Just so everyone doesn't think I've lost my mind, "I'm Walking on Sunshine" was a hit song in the mid 1980s by a band named Katrina and the Waves.
I thought it was a bit odd that they named a tropical storm Katrina. |

I hope all our Southern CEF members are all right an are safe and sound. Unfortunatley I cannot listen to any traffic as i have no SW radio an my turbo doesnt go low enough. I wish I didnt have to have 5 back surgeries or I would be there to lend a helping hand!

Things look pretty bad on the Gulf Coast. I
feel for those people. Just wished they would
of listened and got out of dodge.
I have also noticed Gas prices taking a
major jump. Was $2.59 a gallon this morning,
now it's $3.05 gallon tonight for regular.
Heard on news Southern States gas prices
going craxy. Katrina has effected alot of
things...

Katrina: I think it would be a good idea if the CEF members that live in the path of Katrina would make a post and let us know you're ok. That is if you have power to run your computers.

We made it through ok..no house damage..we are in gonzales, between new orleans and baton rouge...we are very lucky...got power back yesterday...I hope everybody else from the new orleans and surrounding area got out in time...

glad to hear that ur okay Tinman!. I just hope the rest of the CEF members from down there are as lucky as u. Just keep us posted on how thing s are going. Jim, Gas prices went from 2.65 to 3.49 for unleaded in just 6 hours up here in Michigan  . Again glad to hear Tinman is allright an we will still keep everyone else in our thoughts an prayers.

Ajm---yeah gas prices jumped from $3.05 to $3.29
a gallon again this morning.
I had to stop watching the news as it's
very sad to watch the things going on in the gulf coast. I will make a donation to the hurricane victims and keep praying.

It was a tropical storm when she came through TN, which is highly unusual for one to still be a TS once it gets up here. It went through west TN so all we got was a bit of wind and some rain, we were 70 miles or so from its center. Pig40 and Mechanic were more in a direct path. Hopefully they came through it unscathed.

Finally a chance to relax....working hard with USAR FL-TF3 in Biloxi...have some down time, so I am checking email, and reading posts.. There is alot of hard work ahead. Take it from someone who is seeing it first hand....it's bad. Will post up when we get back home, and for anyone on this site affected....be safe. |
