Just thought some of you would like to know that I passed both the Tech AND General exams today for the Amateur Radio Service (test elements 2 and 3).

Now, I just need to get that code down!

Still waiting to hear from the VE what my call sign is.

Wooohooo!

Thanks to all of you for the congrats!

New call sign is KB3HIN, but, get this, I've already put in for a vanity call. KB3HIN is a fine call sign, but I've got something in mind that reflects what I do for a living, sooo... wish me luck and I'll let you know if I get it.

Already started on the code since my little practice oscillator arrived, too!

welcome to ham radio harpoonman let nothing get in your way to enjoy it to the fullest. Like most people i got my first licence good only for a year and damn near let it expire ran out and 36 years ago got a tech ticket. I held a call of WB2ZKT and can still remember the day i got it good feeling to get that paper still can remember some contacts like jean shepard K2ORS who was a radio talk show personalty of the 60's. In thoes days most of us used WW2 surplus ARC-3 / SCR-522 on 2 meter AM if you were rich you ran a heath kit or gonset comm 2,3 or 4. Things have come a long way my 100 watt all mode radio is 1/3 the size of the power transformer of the arc-3 and my hand held which is 2/440 with 200 channles smaller than the carbon mikes of that day. i'm on 29.6 fm at 3:30 pm est weekdays give a lissen

congratulations on the new ticket. Welcome to the wonderful world of ham radio. I currently have my General ticket and am working on Extra. May I suggest a cw program that made it easy (for me) to learn. The program is code quick. I'm in no way associated with the people who produce the program, but am just a satisfied customer.

Now you need a FT-817, FT100D, and a few others that I can't afford but they sure look sweet

Dont forget fellas, 10 meters is also an HF band. If you already have a ten meter radio, use it. The HF rig will come later. I have talked to a lot of people on 10 meters that use Rangers, Presidents, Magnums, HTX10, ETC.... Frankly, I still have alot of fun on VHF/UHF also. I also agree with KD5AFE, I bought code quick, and it only took 2 weeks to learn the alphabet, and the punctuations.

Phineas i run my dx-70 on 10 and 6 from the car very nice it will go from 160 - 6 but i dont feel like having a 600 lb ant taking out power wires as i go down the road. I have owned and used the hx-10 the ranger 2950 on 10 and found both to work well as a low end moble radio. The ranger 5054 is also a fine radio i run one and im very happy with it. Also if you have a ranger and want to go on 2 meter SSB check out the ten-tec transverters they work very well at just over 150 as a kit. Im on 29.6 at 3:30 pm est weekdays see ya all.
