I just picked up a mint HR 2510. I added the channel guard. Put the faster switching diodes in and changed the RF amp for the recieve. I turned it on and asked for someone to help me recalibrate the signal meter. Everyone said they could barely understand me and I was all muffled. I tryed to turn down the amc control and it is broke. I was wondering if anyone has one of these for the HR 2510 or knows where I can pick up a replacement. I found out the power was cranked almost to the max and that's why it was distorted. Man I was so worried there was something wrong that I couldn't fix. I thought back to what that kind of muffled came from and remembered that it sounded like an overdriven linear and decided to check the power output.

A few thoughts from my experinces with the 2510. I have owned them since they came out in the mid 1980s. The 2510 and old Jackson came out about the same time, both ran the big 40 watt final. From the first, the Jackson was a great AM radio, but the SSB receive was bad. The 2510 was a great SSB radio, but was not a strong talker on AM. Both were hard to match with an amplifier because of the high output final, and difference in impedance in antennas affected them greatly, if they were set up in the shop, on antenna or dummyload, they would change considerable when installed mobil, you almost had to set the wattage output hooked up in the mobil. By installing a variable power adjustment on the outside of the radios solved that problem, for AM, but SSB was still a problem for the low drive Amps, they would not stand the 40 or 50 watt SSB power, lots of 'pills' blown before the hi drive amps came out. The 2510 was still a great SSB talker, but did not sound like I wanted on AM, even with power mikes. That changed about 1991, sadelta came out with the ME-3 echo power mike, I and several of my friends were running the 2510s, one of them saw the ME-3 in a catalog, and ordered 3 or 4, he brought them to my shop, I didn't like the looks of the things, but wired one of them for the friends 2510, he went out to his car, connected the mike, and audio-ed a few times, the echo just happened to be turned up a little bit, we were listening on a base radio in the shop, and knew instantly we had found a mike for the 2510s. I'm not a big fan of echo, hate it, if its very much, the the little echo, with the amplification of the power mike brought the 2510 alive on AM, gave it the strong deep sound that I want, and they worked great on SSB also.
I'm sure some of the other echo-power mikes that came out would work ok also, but for me, the little ugly ME-3 works best.

I kind of wish they would bring back the 2510 or make another model just as good or better.

You can still buy the President Lincoln, I haven't looked in one latly, but they use to be the same radio as the 2510, the Lincoln had a variable power on the outside, which made it better.

I just picked one up on ebay. It seems they've backed off a little on the longtime 2510 ban. The auctions actually stay up for more than two days.

I've been watching E-bay again for the last few weeks, it seems they are letting the Galaxys stay on, and kicking the Rangers, figure that one out. crazy. I did see a couple 2950s go thru, but someone listed a 3500 yesterday, and it was kicked during the night.
