Revpo,

I have a Radio Shack noise canceling pre amp mic and also an EC2018A Xtreme Mic that I wired for my Realistic radios. Both work great! So far I have more DX contacts using this radio than any I own.

I had a trc453 with a stock mic and the alc and amc turned up, didn't need a preamp mic audio was loud and clear, the 465 is almost the same as the 453,good receive and very quiet in the car.

Yep Good radio, I run a 465 with the stock mic. in my car and get amazing results. On SSB the radio is said to sound clean and clear. I get out along way with just an RM-203 and a Lil Wil mag. mount. 25+ miles mobile to base.

I have one. I use it more as a base, where it gets a Turner +3 base mic hooked up to it. Sounds excellent.

Lots of folks have mentioned the TRC 453. My understanding is that it is basically the same radio as the Uniden 122XL.

I have two TRC465 and I have found that if tuned right, that you do not need amplified mike.
