Same as the later 2510's, except has variable power (AM only, I think). My buddie's receives awsome and has the rock-solid sideband, just like my 2510!! They are just getting so scarce! If anybody's going to Europe soon, stuff your suitcase full of them before you return!

Actually, it is the 477 and 497 that are hard to find and expensive. The 455 is cheap and easy to find - - that's why it's so cool that they changed to it!

why are you so worried about finding a final? as long as you run an antenna the 455 should never burn out.

Diggerodell

You can run a "almost-infinity" SWR on the 477 final in a HR-2510 or Lincoln without it smoking. You really have to work at destroying one. The only times I have EVER had to replace any 477s in my shop is with the older radios that have had a lot of air-time and age on them. NEVER from a high SWR problem. They are too well protected. But they eventually WILL do a burn-out with age. But that's years down the road for you my friend.

"some ifo for ya all" is incorrect in saying that they have a MRF455 as a final. However, the 477 final that the radio comes with can easily be replaced with a 455 or a 1446. I have done many with good results.

Your Lincoln will serve you well for years to come. You have chosen wisely.

Jeff, I have to beg to differ with you on one point - the current production President Lincolns DO use the 455 final. But your points are well taken. :)

diggerodell: Enjoy the Lincoln. I,ve been running one for three months now. It was worth the wait. It has a super reciever on both AM and SSB. It's a pleasure dialing up through the bands in 100Hz steps.

Are you serious? It's been awhile since i've seen a new Lincoln. When did they start putting a MRF455 pill in them. The only thing I have seen them in are the small linears and some modulators.

And by the way. A 1446 pill WILL easily replace a MRF455. They both sell for around 9 or 10 bucks a copy at Westgate Laboratories. Call them at 1-800-213-4563 and ask them for their free quarterly price sheet.

455s in Lincolns huh? Gee, what will they think of next? A far better frequency display I hope.

Thanks and 73s Highlander

Exactly what i was thinkin mikefromms. And a little bit bigger display with a different color backround. Then it would be a killer radio! :)

Bruce, I like the LCD display on the FT-847. Now if the Lincoln had a display like that with an anolague meter, that would be cool!

Simpleman,

I agree this is the first bad review I have ever seen on a Lincoln. Everyone has their taste concerning meters (whether or not you care for analog or LED), but as far as being a bad radio, an interesting comment. I have run mine since I got it (used) in 1996 and it is by far one of the sweetest talking radios on the airwaves. Stability on SSB is rock solid. Combined with an Astatic D104 M6B, it's hard to beat.

The receive is one of the quietest out there (comparing export radios), but retains the ability to pull in the weak signals as well.

Jon666, what is it you do not like about yours?

Jon666, you may find a good power mic will really help boost the modulation without turning any screws insides (i.e. retain the warranty). Like for me, the D104 M6B is perfect, super clear on AM but not too much on SSB (properly set of course). I also know those that run other Astatic power mics with superb results.

The Lincoln talks very very well on sideband if SSB is your thing.

Just some options that may or may not help you enjoy that radio instead of leaving it unused in a box.

Jon666

Do you understand low and high level modulation?
Are you just repeating things based on if its high its got to be better? What the story here?

"just the modulation will neaver be loud like my galaxy since the lincoln uses low level mod"

There is no galaxy that is going to match a lincoln on ssb and with chipswitch mod a channelguard filter and the rf amp mod this radio will hold its own with some low end ham sets.

There are many fine techs on this forum with lots of knolege and from many backgrounds and not one agrees with you. We are here to help you if that is what you want ..... THINK ABOUT IT.

Jon with all due respect, can I have your Lincoln? Not trying to be a wise-acre here. I would love to have this radio.
It is going to have base station like AM sound not AM punch like say my Galaxy 93T.
I know this radio has mods to make it "louder" on AM if you wish.
I would not give up on that radio so easily.
