anyone remember this antenna, i might want to upgrade but im not sure if i can find something that will work as well. Think its a 5/8 wave. |

Get a 5/8th MACO and if your area is limited get a astro plane it is a dx chaser, my maco is on the roof and the astro plane is on a 25 foot pole both are good antennas..

If they made one its a 1/2 wave .....
They went out of bussness 25 years ago ... SADLY.
Maco seems the best choice but dont undersell the astroplane / top one I had one here and its a good small antenna.

If in fact tne antenna is a 1/2 wave is there a positive way to tell the difference between 5/8 wave and 1/2 wave by length of radials and antenna? From what i can remember the antenna is about 20 ft and radials are around 4 ft and there is 3 of them |

If its about 20 feet long than its probably a 5/8 wave.Hygain used to make a CLR 2 that was about 21 feet and it was a 5/8 wave antenna,it was a step down from a Penetrator but worked very well but there was problem with the loading coil going bad.

That sounds like the old magumn antenna made by AS. It had 4 foot ones and was 18 foot long a VERY good antenna even by todays atandards.
The CL2 had 9 foot radials and was 21 + foot long.
I used ( on 52 mhz ) both a mosley DI-6 which is the same as a CL-2 would be on CB and a Ringo 1/2Wave with proper decoupling and found the 1 DB change that you would expect.
I have also used the skylab ( on 52 mhz ) and it will also hold its own .......
Bottom line ALL work well you have several good antennas to choose from.

Long live the old AS Super Mag Antenna. It had four radials that were about four feet each in length and the vertical was 18' if I remember. I had one and do a search every once and awhile on internet looking for one. Don't know why, still have my new super scanner packed in box and never opened up.
