Will the Workman DM-502B desk mic work on AM as it only has switches for FM/SSB on the desk mike itself?
Has anyone tried one of these yet and if so what do you think of it?
Does it wire onto a Ranger RCI2950DX and do the microphone up/down buttons on this mic work with this radio?

I'm curious if the Workman DM sounds as good or better than the Astatic 878DM. Currently looking at both the Astatic and the DM 502B from Copper and trying to make a choice under $100. Not going to do the internet auction thing.

Canal_digger,

Personally I have received far better On Air audio reports with the Workman DM502B than the plastic Astatic AST-878DM in side by side testing on 10/11/12 meter contacts.

The Workman DM502B just has far more featrutes/options for the serious CBer or Ham.

Ohhhhhh did I mention I personally HATE plastic desk mic's like the Astatic AST-878DM.

Hope this help's,

Finally after some serious research on features/benefits/price/quality, I have placed my order for the DM-502B with 4pin wiring for my Magnum S-9. Looking forward to seeing how she does and I'll let you know what other folks out there in DX land tell me!

After using this desk mic for these many months, my local contacts think it sounded "OK" with the Magnum S9, but "Great" with my Galaxy 95T. No scientific tests other than what a handful of folks told me. Had to tweak both the mic gain on the radio with the mic volume to optimize. Conversely, I used the Astatic 878 with the S9 & they preferred it over the Workman 502B. Maybe there is something to matching a radio w/ a certain mic?

On SSB with a Magnum 95T, I have the Radio's mic gain set at 11 o'clock and the desk mic (underneath) set about 3/4. Seem to get the best reports with those settings and pushing either setting just gets more overdrive per some of my local contacts.

I bought this mic got it with a 6 pin connector for a RCI 2995 DX. It had problems with up channel button and the transmit button. If up button was pressed the radio went into transmit but dead carrier. If transmit was pressed it transmitted great but went up a channel after release of transmit button. Whats the deal??? Thanks Ron
