I have a MFJ-4245MV 45 amp switching power supply can only get 15 to 20 amps out of it and then it will shut down. Am I doing something wrong or !!!! Manufactoring site has no info. Was using a Boomer Deluxe 250. When I modulate it shuts down. |

Swisher, The factory warranty on it is 12 months. Do a GOOGLE SEARCH for: MFJ-4245MV and you will find the factory specs and other helpful information. Lon~Tech808 CEF#0808/HAM#001/CVC#0002 Tech808@copperelectronics.com

It is a good possibility that you are getting some RF into the power supply. Some switching supplies can be very touchy when it comes to RF getting into them. Its possible that your amp is running a bit dirty with some harmonics that are causing this ,try using a radio that that can draw 20 amps by it self and see if the problem goes away Bob VE1CZ/CEF451 Robert L. I have seen warnings on some switching mode power supplies that say not to use them with transcievers. I did some homework before i bought mine and have not had a problem with it. Both my RCI 2970DX and Magnum 357DX pull around 30a without a hicough, same with my IC-725 although only drawing about 15a. If i'm allowed to name it, it's a DOSS 40a Switching Mode Regulated Model: SPS-8400. I have no idea if they are available in the US as mine runs on the local 240v. But maybe there is a substitute. Thanks for the suggestion, but still not working. After reading some old posts on power supplies could this be my problem. I have my 45 amp power supply pluged into the house hold current, 120 volt wall plugin about 50 foot from breaker box which has a 20 amp breaker for that part of the house. When I dead key amp meter reads from 15 to 20 amps, when I modulate it starts to swing to a lower amp and then shuts down. There are other things pluged in that line. Do you think I maybe starving the supply for amperage. I don't have a 240 close by. Any suggestion will be helpful. |

Sounds like very poor regulation when under higher loads.Try loading it down with something else if its still the same I would ditch it or use a separate power supply for your amp and one for the radio. Bob CEF451/VE1CZ Robert L. Spicer The days of radio are just beginning!
