Could I get your opinion on the Sirio 827 5/8 Omni base antenna? It looks like a high end Alum. performer, but not too much representation in the US at this time (kinda like the Sigma Turbo). We all know, manufacturers can pretty much put whatever specs they want on these things. Seems like the Turbo on paper AND per your tests is the front runner, but curious if the 827 is the real deal too? Thanks. |

I have a S-827 Antenna for over a year and it is INDEED a excellent 5/8 wave antenna and I could fully recommend one to anybody. It is very rigid and made of an Aluminum/Magnesium alloy and has held up over some really high winds and bad weather. It seems to hear very good on the Amateur bands from 10 to 80 meters.... I went on 40 meters last night with my antenna tuner and it seem to work really fine. I would say that it would out do an Imax 2000 by an S unit and a half...And, I did own an Imax once too. But the S-827 is INDEED BETTER.
Just thought I would give you a heads up on this one. But I am still wanting to purchase a Sigma Mantova Turbo in the future when Copper gets those in stock. Because I believe that one would out perform the S-827. They are very close to each other on appearance but I think the Mantova Turbo is still better from what I have heard from Tech 808.......... |

Well, if you saw the S-827 is about 1 to 1.5 S units better than IMax2K (which I have), and you & Tech 808 are thinking that the Mantova Turbo is a touch better than Imax2k, then it sounds like it will be worth the wait for the Turbo. I don't want to go through the hassle of replacing my Imax2k unless I feel I'm really upgrading my set up (getting at least 1.5 S-units Tx/Rx additional out of it). For me, Vector 4000 is just too big/tall, so sounds like the Turbo is the front runner for Omni. Tech808 has the Turbo test data and it is almost May so I'm sure we'll see shortly how it looks in real conditions based on his Tx/Rx tests. Thanks for the reply. |
