Well i got it in last night and finished doing the install around 10am today. two deep cycles and a 200 amp alt -02 welding cable, 50 farad cap 2 of them and it seems to be doing fine. s-9 dx1600v and wilson roof mount. seeing around 1560 or so on pep, i am not going to complain about that.

Very nice! Just curious about your setup. I too am planning on buying the DX1600v in the hopefully near future and was thinking that a 200 amp alternator and extra battery would be plenty to power it. Have you tried the setup without the capacitors? If so was amp performance reduced any? Any significant voltage drop during keydown?

Hotwire sence the last post i had to upgrade a few things..3 more batt's lowdrive alt bracket, witch was not easy on an 02 4.3 s-10!!!so i put the stock alt back in stock position and run the 200 amp alt down low on the lowdrive pulley, and change the isolater to a 220 amp. good now.. And with 1 batt aint no way u keying it down for long i put a volt meter in line with two deep cycle 1000 amp 218 res and two caps the voltage on the back two batt's drop to a wopping 10 VOLTS IN A MATTER OF SECONDS, WITH THE TRUCK RUNNING WITH SAME SET UP DROPS TO AROUND 11.7 VOLTS.. All together (and i pay cost)alt was around $420, batt $649.95, isolator $149.99, wiring kit to gm alt $25.99 -02 welding cable for ground and power $2.18@ft@25ft $54.50 $160.89 cap's plus dx1600v $966 or so delivered $2427.32 and still going......DONT REGRET A THING LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

GSD,
You can sleep at night knowing there isn't another rig like that within 500 miles or more. Sounds like a power house on wheels!
What antenna are you using?

GSD, So 2 caps, 2 1000 amp batterys and a 200 amp alternator plus the neccasary gear gets it in the ballpark. Did I miss anything?
I would love to see some pics of the install!

Kenny, i was half asleep writing that. sence the last post i ended up having a total 6 deep cycles all 1000 amp, and also added two more caps. Know i can key up for 10-15 min before the isolator switches to start charging the back batt's. getting 210 amps to the back of the box with 14.4 volts on external regulator. NO FUSES ALL CIRCUIT BREAKERS..seem to handle the pull better, and the antenna is wilson 5ooo roof mount. only regret is i had to take the NOS out no room for bottle amps and batt's there is a picture of the truck with the old 667v setup on cb trick have never been able to get my pictures posted here. and pat 20 miles north of providence RI in a city called Woonsocket and i actually live in the highest house on the biggest hill in RI witch is mt. st charles lil over 200 feet above sea level and antenna is 60 feet off roof of a three story apartment house.. And canal digger you are right there is nobody around here that can touch it closes thing around here to it is my warrior heathkit and that dosent even come close to seeing the foward on rms that i get from the mobile it is a lil over kill, but i like showing the guys running beams and stuff that a lil mobile can really put the hurt on when dx is rolling......I even went as far as to install all LED lighting to save as much juice as possible

back in the late 70's thru mid 80's i used to talk to a guy who was pres of 'cranston radio club' i think he was from woonsocket, so i know i can make the trip there. i think he had a moonraker & some watts. i know i did it base with homemade wilson comet clone & fl2100b, as well as mobile.
keep up the good work! i'll be listening for i on the nets!

Pat, Right across the street from my house is the old Rhode Island react shack. It was also the "shack" that was used for the CRC club into the 80's so i know i can make it too you also, And i look down on that spot now. I am normally on channel 17AM that is local here. And it seems that DX has been coming in as of late, on 17AM. I try the net every sun AM/SSB and the only one i have ever contacted was 808 that was also the day after i registered to be a CEF member. And for the last what? three weeks i have been hitting it with just under 2k. it will pick up again, i personaly loved the 80's when we had 30db of skip on every channel everyday:-)......IF YOU CAN HERE THE 1 1 CRAZY HORSE:-(:-(:-( IGNORE AND TURN EAST TOWARD THE RIGHT HAND CORNER OF RI IM RIGHT THERE!!!

My humble opinion I believe there is no such thing as "overkill" when it comes to something like this.
Nice to have the extra heat in the mobile on a day like today. -2 degress F right now in Indy!

I had a dave made back in the day it was a straight 4 pill and it cut lips off TS 500dx. would like some feed back to this. powering it is not a question.

OK... guy's, ordered the 16 pill fat boy no ssb delay. I will using on am skip and keydown's, also keeping the dx1600v for SSB. And clean am situation. figured i could not beat the price right now for that much so it will be a designated keydown box.

oK, WELL GOT THE FAT BOY STRAIGHT 10 PILL AND SOUNDED LIKE JUNK. WELL REDID EVERY THING CHANGED ISOLATOR OUT TO 300 AMP CONSTANT 360 SURGE, AND ALT TO A DESIL TRUCK ALT (MAKES IT POWER OFF IDILE) AT 300 AMP. WELL I GUESS IT WORKED CUZ I BLEW UP A CAP IN A TV IN THE APARTMENT HOUSE(STUPID DIDNT THINK OF IT BEFORE I KEYED UP)FROM THE TRUCK, AND ON THE WAY HOME LAST NIGHT I HAD THE TRAFFIC LIGHTS A ONE INTERSECTION BLINKING WITH MY AUDIO. FAT BOY AMP IT IS GREAT ON AM BUT I WILL STICK WITH MY TSDX1600V FOR MOST OF THE SSB AND SOME AM, FAT BOY WILL BE USED A THE COMING KEYDOWN IN RI SOON. AND SORRY ABOUT THE CAPS SOMETIME THE CAPS GET STUCK.

Just asking because I run a 2 pill in the moble and work more on my base setup but dont caps store power and discharge very fast? I would think any power stored would be gone as soon as you key up.

Mrclean, I found that the cap's in the installtion was not to retain power(backup). I is there to take the "shock" of the isolator, with out the caps in there the isolator will switch instantly...witch having a gas engine it needs juice to run. when it dose switch over the voltage on my front batt will start to drop to around 10 volts or less(fuel injection ) and will stall out the truck at 55 mph with no problem. mind you i have changed a few things sence the last post on here. running a daul annt setup now 1 hot 1 cold, sold out some of the other boxes and whent too big and i am scrambling to make it work correctly 24 pill's now VERY DIFFERENT!!!!!!!!!
