I am not going to start a fight here, but I have a uniden 78 elite, I had it tuned at a good shop, and he does not clip the limiter out. Now I had 5 guy's on good sounding radio's judge for them selves, The radio sounded good but I then clipped the radio, and everyone I talk to say's it sound's like a connex or an galaxy radio. I do have echo. the report's are loud and proud, they thing i'm running a big radio. my point is you can clip the limiter and have a very good sounding radio if it is tuned right. |

Ok what is loud and proud? The problem is without good test gear you realy dont have any way of knowing. I don't care for the limiters but untill someone comes along with a negitive peak limiting system that is better it will have to do. On 6 since 66

This unidenn is a special radio, i don't even get no bleed over whatsoever. I did hear guy's with the limitiers cut and they sounded like . but i'm telling you everyone i talk to think's I'm running a dual final radio |

IF you are not exceeding 100% NEGITIVE modulation you will not get splatter .... THAT'S what the limiter is meant to do. I don't know what a limiter and dual finals have in common but I’ll take your word .... I run a intact Grant LT and hear the modified radios all them time ..... they are JUNK .... some just take a good radio and want to trash it. On 6 since 66

bruce I respect your opion, but my radio sound's good and if you heard it you would say the same. My only input was to let people know that if a radio is clipped it still can sound good. I get nothing but what kind of radio do you have, and I say it is an uniden, people can't believe it. But like i said i don't want to argue about it. |

I agree Mike, I have heard several radios that have had the limiters clipped and they sound nice and have very loud modulation. Before that they did sound very undermodulated. |

Mike ..... I didn't say your radio sounded bad I said if ANY radio goes over 100% negative it WILL sound bad. As for clipping limiters it's NOT a good idea I have used audio clipping / compression with great results and as for under modulated the limiter should not do that it only kicks in at more that 80%. IF a radio sounds that bad removing the clipper will do NOTHING. On 6 since 66

I agree with Mike, I have come across many radios that I would have swore that the limiter was functioning. When you combine things like power mic gain at full , and just poor tuning of the radio internally at the same time an amplifier that is not being operated properly for whatever reason , even if the limiter is intact your gonna sound like poo! The evidence is on just about any local city cb channel. Much of a good sounding CB setup is the operator knowing how it is supposed to work. Before any cber puts his hands inside a radio he should have his nose in a book! Kenny CEF491 Reading the mail around Indianapolis Indiana!

Thought I'd add my 2 cents worth. I've had many radios over the years, clipped and unclipped. A Royce 620 untouched that was loud without splatter, I put a D-104 on it set it 1/2 way open and didn't ripple my own TV on ch 5. Had a Teaberry Gold 5X5 w/same D-104 that gutted the neighbors TVs 5 houses away till I installed a trap and a counterpoise. Had a Zachory T that was clean on adjacent channels and TVs the clipper was in it and it was LOUD with a power mike. A Ward 719 (Cobra 140) wouldn't get out tuned even with a power mike, took the limiter out and it's one of the loudest I've owned. Now, it will gut a TV without a trap and will bleed many channels away but with the proper mike setting it's reasonable on the channels. The Uniden Washington I have is clean, good audio, modified/unclipped and no neighbor complaints. Even it's on a TVI trap. The Lincoln I had and the HR2510 I have are the best sounding radios I've had. Point is, what ever it is you're running, if you're happy, try to make those on other freqs. happy too and do all you can to get along with your neighbors. Try to keep in mind the old rule of radio (nasty signal in, nasty signal out). Ripples on a TV will get you a letter from the FCC real quick! Wally/Pressman/KC4ZWM
