I have a PAL 201 BDX base amp, it has a pair of 8950 tubes and a 12JB6A which I belive is a driver, What should I be seeing out of this amp?
Right now I'm getting about 250 to 275

What your seeing is about the maximum I would want to run it. Those old amps were made before the dual final high swinging radios and don't like too much input.
I would run it about 50-60 watt deadkey and then let it swing, which will probably be about what your doing now.
I've got two of the old Palomars, a 300a and a Skipper 300. The skipper has 4-8950 tubes. I put enough in so it keys about 150 watts, and the swing will be 400+.
Those high priced tubes will last a long time running it like that and on the other end they want see much difference in 300 watts and 600 watts.
