Do not send your radio to Bob's Radio in PA. I was told there would be a two week turn-around and it is going on four weeks and no radio. I talked to a couple of other people and one said that it was over a month and his radio came back worse than it was. The other one said it was over two months. He called and was told he did not work for Sam Lewis that he took care of his customers first. Guess where he is located, in a truck stop and that means you do not know how long it will be before you get your radio back. I talked to Sam and he called Bob and it should be done and shipped tomorrow. Also he told me Bob would not be working Magnum Radios any more. Update on Magnum radio that was sent to Bob's Radio in PA. After over a month I finally got it back and still was not fixed. I called Sam Lewis and after much discussion, I sent it back to Bob's and as of Friday, the radio had not been touched. I like Magnum radios, but if this is the kind of service I am going to get, no more Magnums in this house. I feel if warranty work and service is going to be done at a truck stop, you know which is going to be taken care of first. HARVE UNIT199 CEF0210/CVC#018/HAM#010 Midwest 10 Meter Net Controller

I have a Magnum DeltaForce that stopped receiving after the warranty period expired. I sent it to Chris Holland on the west coast because people praised his work. Live and learn by mistakes right? I sent my microphone to along with the radio and SP1a speech processor to have it installed at the same time. They switched microphones on me sending me one that was used with a broken mounting stud. The radio had chocolate smeared on the face and cover and while the radio was returned in working condition the receive was not nearly as good as it was when it was newer. If Sam Lewis is reading these he might want to arrange for better warranty service locations because I replaced the DeltaForce with a Galaxy radio. I'm now looking at Magnums because I want a second radio but discovering others can't get good repair work as well makes me want to rethink this as well. I have to ask, if we can't get quality repair work done at the places RF Limited identifies as the two main warranty repair locations in the USA, where is a good place to have quality repairs done at a reasonable price? Why are so many places claiming they are the cats meow for tuning radios when none of them fix broken ones? Does Copper repair radios? If so, what do they charge and what kind of experiences have others had getting repairs done with them? |

Well you guys have me wondering if I did the right thing now. My Omega Force quit receiving or transmitting a couple weeks ago, first problem I've had with it since I bought it from Copper's in sept 2003. I called Magnum and they recommended Chris Holland. My radio will be delivered to him today according to UPS tracking. I'll see how this works out and will let you know. I hope it will be positive. scrapiron |

I have an Omegaforce that was giving a problem with the mic gain knob/shaft; you had to push on it with some heavy pressure to get it to work; this about a year ago. After calling Sam Lewis, he gave me an RA# and had me send it a shop in (I believe) South Carolina, even though I live in PA. I am trying to find the name of the shop to post here; but short story is I sent it out on a Monday and received it back that Friday repaired and was amazed at the service; speed and quality. I had never heard of the shop before that time nor seen it again till this day... I will try and look through my old records... Joe KB3SER CEF969 NE Asst Net Control 11m and 10m

Sam told me that Chris was so behind that if he had me send the radio there, it might be awhile before I would get it back. Also, it is going to be over two months if and when I get my radio back and I hope he fixes it this time. IMHO if Sam wants any of us Magnum owners to send our radios to Bob's Radio in PA, we should demand they be sent to a different place. Well, for one thing, they do not repair the radios at the factory. I am the forth person that has had problems with sending their radio to Bob's Radio. A person can take or send the radio to whom-ever or where-ever they want to. but I guarantee that Bob will never work on one of my radio again ever. I sent a radio to Bobs and it took 2 months. And the radio is still not right. Also depending on where one lives driving to Bobs could be more costly then buying a new radio. |

Well, I got my Magnum back Friday and did not get a chance to check it out until today. Everytime I send it ba to Bob's Radio, it comes back with a different problem. Now the radio is so far off freq, I can not clarify anyone in on side-band. I will have to line it up so I can use it on side-band. From now on if anything goes wrong with it, if I can not fix it, in the junk pile it goes. I have one last thing to say: if Sam Lewis keeps letting idiots like him continue to work on the Magnum radios, his sells are going down!!!! I was thinking about buying either a Magnum S-980 or S-9175 but I see from the posts here it's not just me having problems getting a broken Magnum fixed even by RF Limited approved repair stations. I also forgot to mention that the Magnum repair station removed all the tuning I had put in it. I'm really happy about paying for the mods and then having the Magnum folks remove it all. The problem wasn't the mods, it was heat from the radio being in a hot car that messed it up. Gee, a radio that can't stand the heat of closed vehicle in summer in the middle of the U.S.A. no less! I'd never again use an RF Limited warranty station for any repairs. I really like my Galaxy 99v. It isn't the best on SSB but it works great for me. I don't want to buy two of them as I'd like to try something else this time. If Connex made an SSB export radio with their killer AM I'd be on the phone right now. To bad they don't. I'm thinking I need an AM monster Duct Taped to a quality SSB box if I could only find the right color of Duct Tape to match the two radios! The search goes on... |

Well I got my Magnum Omega Force back from Chris Holland and have checked it out. The problem was fixed and it's working like new again, it also still looks like new. No scratches or anything from the shipping/work. The radio was at his shop for just 5 working days so I think the turn around was good. I bought this Magnum from Coppers almost 6 years ago when they first came out and this is the first problem with it. I'm well satisfied with the radio and the service work. I would recommend Chris Holland from my experience with him. Scrapiron ------------------------- CEF 108, Arkansas |
