I have an entire collection of 40 channel walkie talkies. I have four of this particular model. Some TRC 226s were made in Japan. Some were made in Korea. The last ones were made in China. My experience is that they have some of the best ears and noise blanking/limiting I have ever worked with on a walkie talkie.

They are also unique in that they have a telescoping antenna with a TNC connector. I've been trying to find a rubber duck with a TNC connector and a replacement telescoping antenna. No luck on either. Does anyone know where replacement CB walkie talkie antennas with TNC connectors can be found? Radio Shack does not carry them.

Thanks

Hello, I have some of the 226's as well and they are great little radios. I have used one with a 12-volt power supply as a base for a time. To use it with a base antenna it took three different adaptors to finally be able to hook-it-up to my coax. I did find all the adaptors at radio shack but I had to go to several of them to find the pieces. With the ext. mic/speaker it was fun to use in the house especially running a amp with it.

I have all the necessary adapters. I wanted to avoid using one when using a rubber duck so I could minimize loss on an already inefficient set up.

But I have gotten great use out of my TRC 226s. I have a headphone set up I use when running one in the mobile. For the house, I have a Turner +3 base mic wired with a 2.5 mm plug. Folks think I'm pulling their leg when I tell them I'm talking on a 40 channel walkie talkie.

Loss ?

The loss will be VERY small nothing to worry about even on 223 mhz I have used adaptors on HT antennas with no problems at all.

INEFFICIENT you bet but thats because your loading a 9 foot wip down to ONE FOOT even on 52 mhz ( 6 meter FM ) the pull out wips and rubber duckys are not worth much and any full size antenna brings the radio to life ....

Enjoy your radio .... short of a 9 foot wip supported by a sky hook your stuck with the ones that are out there ......

Interesting thing about these 226s is that they were made in Japan first; then Korea and finally in China. The last batch seems to the least reliable.

But back to the original point. The stock 4' telescoping antenna works pretty well. I'm getting 11 to 15 miles over the water down here in the Fla. Keys talking from boat to house. Sure wish I could find some spares with TNC or BNC ends.
