Anyone using one of these? Please let me know what you think of the antenna as I am considering ordering one. I am looking at the Laser 400. Thanks! |

they sure are big. but I did not use one. probly the same as a moonraker 4 in performance.
could be wrong but if it is it is a great antenna. |

My Late ex Father-inlaw had one and I talk to him on it many times from 40-50 miles apart.
He gave them to me when he moved to TN. back in '94. I had them layed out in the yard and they got drove over do to being in tall grass. I cryed cuz I never got to put them up and use them. Then I gave them away not knowing at that time I could have used Vert or Horz.
Other then that I say it's a great beam.
A Ham IV rotor or bigger is need to turn it.

Ahhh Yes the old Wilson Laser 400 and 500 if you can afford one, use a Heavy duty rotor they are way better than a moonraker do to the shear size over 30 ft long emence gain.  |

Years ago a gent in Auburndale FL. used a Laser 500 with a Browning Golden Eagle. At my home at the time in Sebastian FL, he would hit my stacked PDL2s with an S-6. Another station south of me in Stuart FL running a Laser 400 with a Tram D201 would hit me with a solid S-9. The 500s were 100 miles away and the 400s were 65 miles away. Either one of them running power? They said not. If I had the room (property) and $$$$ would I put one up? You betcha! That or stacked Maco 5s.

Hello, Well I did something which made much more sense here. Went with a large quad instead. I needed the durability and the Maco seemed like it may have more maintenance issues... Only one polarization, but horizontal is all I really need anyhow. |

Hey George!
Sorry to say I don't remember the guys handle and my log book was destroyed when the twin storms hit us here. It could have been Freightliner, I'll call my brother in Winter Haven to see if he remembers, he was The Recruiter back then and ran stacked V-Quads, I still have one of the V-quads. In fact that was the last base antenna I had up, a V-Quad on one side of the stack boom with a 10 element 2mtr yagi on the other end.

I would think a maco would be more weather friendly than a quad anyday. |
