What would be magic height to mount my new super scanner? I have a fifty foot push up pole. Same question if I use the Super mag instead. Thanks.

36' / 54' / 72' will give you FULL Wave.

Any 1/2 wave multiple. Measure from the ground to the horizontal spreaders.
1/2 wave at 27 MHz. is about 17.5 feet.
No matter what, the higher the better.
Also keep in mind, the FCC rules limit antenna height to either-
60 feet (to top) above ground
OR
20 feet above the structire the antenna is mounted upon, like a building. 'Structure' does not unclude a communications type tower. |

Thanks guys. Sorry for the delay. Business travel has kept me from doing anything except when talking on radio in car. Just no time anymore it seems like. Recession continues to take it's toll.

I agree with the earlier postings... The higher you can get it the better... Its all about takoff angle for that long distance stuff and for good ground wave it needs to be up there! |

Hello keith
Tech833 is right on the money with the rules but you can go up to 199 feet on a monitoring antenna but after that you will have to light,paint and register the tower with the FCC and the FAA. This really a good thing to search for on the FCC ULS site. My workman w-5/8 is a monitoring/ham antenna

Wow, I wish someone would manufactor that antenna again. One day I am moving to a place where I can put up some big antennas. That was m favorite beam type antenna. Yes, the higher the better for local but for skip I don't know if you would improve much more over 17 feet or a halfwave. Just don't know. |
