I use mine on my base and love it! I seems to be a little more SWR friendly than my KL300P, I use it with a Galaxy DX99V and a HR2510. |

I have a Palomar 250 as well and I am pleasantly pleased with the results. I do not have all the fancy meters and equipment that most of you guys do, but from the response I get when using it I gather that it is doing a great job. I did not buy mine from Copper, and therefore I am not completely sure that it is the same amp even though it says Palomar 250. It works really good on the low and medium power setting, but when I click her on high, I have to turn my mic gain all the way down or all I do is overmodulate. I run mine mobile with a bone stock PC68XL running to a Barjan brand center coil antenna. I have read that if you barrel connect a TVI filter directly to the output of the amp it can help considerably. The pre-amp is a bit weak, but if there is not a lot of skip rolling it can really bring the weaker stations in. I have only used it a few times, but I have never even got it warm, mostly because where I am located, no body runs power and can't answer me. But I can sure talk anywhere in town with it on low and get really good reports. It's mounted on the back wall of the cab of my truck between the seats where I have easy access to it's controls, but I have cut the hell out of my knuckles on the corners of the cooling fins. Also, do not drop an unopened bottle of pop on them unless you like cleaning up a ton of exploded sugar water. Not that that happened to me of course. All in all, I would recommend it to others looking for a nice mobile unit for those looking to increase range somewhat but to really get through the skip or traffic. Does anybody know the biasing and the finals inside it? Also, with a stock radio (legal CB) pushing it, what will it normally dead key and swing to on each power level? Thanx, hope you enjoy it! I guess I am from the old school it's more fun to use what the radio has. Besides it darn near KILLED my battery in my car. I did not want to replace my alternator and battery. And with the 2950 DX I have. I feel it does a mighty fine job I have talked to places I have never talked with out the palomar 250. I figure one day I will find some one in town who will buy it. I guess thats the reason why. 73's have g good one Len #111 So,Minnesota *tropical* |

Well firedog104 I have a 1991 chev corsica I wired it straight the battery red to pos and black to neg. I was driving down the road and looked down and seen the light came on the dash cluster. That was on the high level it talked but again I guess I am not into amp's but I won it so I guess I took it. I run a RCI 2950 DX the rf power was turned all the way down so it was not over powering the amp. Magnum410 sounds interesting I live in Faribault and I work in Lakeville I will e-mail you. 73's Len #111 So.Minnesota |

I have a Pal 250 in my mobile Driving it with a Cobra 29 Ltd Classic that has been tuned a lil. In the high side it will swing about 250W but as i read above in another post I to have to take my mic gain back down or it will backfeed . Also its alittle heavy on the SWR. With the Cobra 29 and a wilson 500 the lil bugger seems to do its job ...I also installed a Turbo Mod echo board in the 29 and it seemed to have picked up the audio a bit ... Have gotten countless flowers on the mobile rig and it wouldnt have made half the trips w/out the Palomar 250 |

Len, not sure what you did but a little Palomar 250 should not bother the alternator or battery in your car. As far as range, the 2950 is a fine radio but 30 watts compared to 180 er so is no contest at all. You should get out real well with that combo. |

HI, Was driving it with my Uniden. One thing I would really like to know is who will repair a 250 HD Palomar that I think I overdrove a bit. Nothing smoked but it sure don't transmit at all. Was driving it with my Uniden Grant XL slightly modified to about 12 watts AM And near 100 watta on sideband my place to be. Any suggestions on who to call for repair? Getting to old and shaky to mess around in tight places! |

With a Palomar 250HD a 2-4 watt dead key with 30watts PEP or less is suggested. If you used a radio that keys 12 and swings 100 your luckey you didn't blow that Palomar up big time. You might contact Richard Tech8541 here on the Copper Forum and see if he can help, he is wonderful with radio's. Good luck.

I had a pal250 in my small import car, it got out great but sometimes when keyed up the rf would interfere with the electronic overdrive unit on my car's transmission! I guess putting a tvi filter inline might have helped, but I drive 100 miles round trip and I didn't want to take chances. I think I might use the amp on my base, but how much power do I need? I only have a Pyramid 12amp. Thanks and 73's! |

I have a Palomar Lizard 250 HD. I use it 2 hrs daily, but I'm not a ratchet jaw. Works great. Good reports. With a 3 watt deadkey and 12 watt swing I get 60 watt dead key and 180-190 swing on my so so meter. The swamping resistors cause me an impedance mismatch on low and medium though and cause SWRs to go way up. So I keep it on high, SWR about 1.2-1. Good CHEAP power. |

I have a fairly new Palomar TX-250 made here in Oklahoma City, none of the Palomar 250s in the catalogs look like mine, has a 20 amp. fuse inside on the circuit board and has 10 meter amateur printed on the back panel. I run it base on a 35 amp. power supply drive it with a Uniden Grant XL, has never been mobile but am thinking of puting it in the car that has a 850 cold cranking amp. battery and a 100 amp. altenator, seems to be a very good amp. have seen close to 240 watts on sideband on high to the I Max 2000. yankee |
