I'm looking at two Tube linears for my base.
Can anyone give any input on these linears.
Do they have to be converted to work for 11 meter?
Are they any good?
Output wattage?
What are the worth?
Laesu FL2100B & a Yaesu FL2500

the fl 2500 uses 6 6KD6 tubes, they havent been made in ages, any you find now will be n.o.s or takeout's. retubing will cost a small fortune. its not worth the hassle. you looking at anywhere between $300-$450 for tubes. its hard to justify the price when you are going to see at best 300 watts on 27/28mhz am.

the fl2100b uses 2 572b tubes and you can still buy those for $50 each new. simular in design to the older heathkit sb 200/201 (201's were the kits versions) im not sure what you plan on using for a driver but both amps will need one. the 2100b with 60 watts input will do around 600 watts ssb on 27/28 mhz. am power will be around 275/300 pep 27/28mhz. they are rated for up to 100 watts pep input and you will see a little more power output but you will also shorten the life of the tubes.

these days solid state amps are a better value and safer for beginners to use.

if your hellbent on a old tube amp look for something that uses either 1 or 2 3-500z tubes, they take some abuse and are good for around 500 watts pep am and around 1000 watts pep ssb 27/28 mhz (per tube with the proper drive)

most amps will need to be converted to cover 10m/11m. any multi band amp like your looking at will require no less than a 50 watt drive to acheieve full power. some amps like ameritrons have a simple wire to clip, others like some of the yaesu's have a wire that needs to be moved and soldered. older amps from the 60's will have a 10m function already insalled from the factory as it was legal. some of the early non 10m amps had it installed just not marked on the selector.
