Just got my 2950dx from Copper. I ordered it from the web site Wednesday night and it was here Friday afternoon. I did the channel mod which takes about 90 seconds and now have full coverage. I hooked it up at home to a NOS Shakespere Gold Band-III halfwave antenna I bought recently and I get 1:15 to 1 on 10 and 11 meters. The radio has great receive and super transmit and audio quality. I tuned it only a little which was easy because all the pots spell out what they are. On AM I have a 1.5 watt dead-key swinging to 32 watts and get a solid 30-33 watts on SSB. Great inexpensive radio with no flaws or quirks.

Hi,

Did your radio come with the expanding module in the box? Any special procedures to do when installing it? Besides making sure there’s no power hooked up to it of course. I have been reading about it on the internet and it seems easy to do.

Thanks.

Yes the module came with the radio inside the box. Just take speaker side cover off and locate the pins at the front of the radio and plug module in and replace cover. 5-minutes. I looked online and found pictures where the pins were located on the radio.

I placed my order and receive it this last Friday; I’ll give you my review of the 2950dx.
First off I was a little concerned when I looked at the box it came in because there was a little tear on the bottom corner about the size of a quarter. Well the radio was ok but there was a slight compression dent on the corner of the radio box due to very little packing material. The extra mic plug and the 1 of 2 the 7volt batteries were missing. It’s unfortunate they didn’t in close the 2 batteries and the 6 pin extra mic plug I ordered in some kind of bag or tape it to the radio box.

Now for the radio, I removed it from the box and gave it a close inspection, everything looked good no damage. I then checked all the hardware, everything there, nothing missing. I hooked it up to my power supply, turned it on and check the receive and transmit on my astatic 600 meter with a dummy load. Stock out of the box this is what I got after I hooking up my DM-452 mic with no echo. AM pwr with variable turn up 8 watts@ 50% modulation, turned down 2 watts@ 80% modulation. FM deviation seemed ok; I’ll need to do a radio check later to verify. SSB power is a solid 32-35 watts. TX & RX Frequency is dead on the money, I never seen this before, wow. The receive is a little hot with just a tad bit of white noise, but I just turn down the RF gain 25% and it’s perfect.

Channel rejection with the ANL & noise blanker on works quite well with just a little normal bleed over from stations just a block away or so. I haven’t experienced any front end overload, also no frequency drift detected from cold to hot so far. I did open the radio to correct the low AM modulation@ 8 watts, I adjusted it to just under 100% ... While I was in there I installed the Frequency module also. My audio reports on SSB are excellent, just as good or better then my 2510, VERY clean and clear!! AM is clean and clear as well. Overall, since you can’t get a new 2510, Lincoln or an Emperor 5010, the new 2950dx now runs in the same class, what an improvement vs. the non DX model.

Note: been DX'ing for 2 days now on ssb with no problems, I recommend this unit for ssb DX, nice unit for the money.

Thanks...

--It truly is hard to beat this radio in most aspects. If you like echo, you are out of luck, but otherwise, it's a great sounding radio, both tx and rx audio sound great. The noise blanker works very well, all modes, and can even be used on 10 meter FM repeaters with the correct offset. It also covers the 12 meter band as well (24-32 Mhz if you use the plug-in thingy for frequency modification). Tough radio. Highly recommended by many.
