I read the reports about the Maco V58 line of antennas here. I bought one, V5000, assembled it a couple of times to get it right, my fault.Put it on a 10' pole and checked the SWRs with my mobile radio, all good @ 27MHZ assembly measurement, 240in or 20'. Put it up 32' on a push up pole and grounded it well. SWRs still good on RCI 2995 DX base radio. Receives well with little noise and transmits better than old fiber glass antenna it replaced according to locals here.
Two days ago we had a really bad thunderstorm come through here, north Fl, about 7pm. Winds recorded by NOAA @ 60mph with lots of lightning and some dime sized hail lastng about 20-25min. I wasn't at the house when this boomer came through was over at a neighbors' place. Thought for sure that the Maco was a loss but was completely surprised to see it still standing undamaged.
Thanks to all here for the great info available on this forum.

I put mine too close to a tree and the limbs beat the radials up pretty bad but it still works. Its a good antenna but I think I would get a Imax 2000 with the ground radial kit next time around.
