I have heard that RCI will be going to mosfet finals in their 2995 in the future. Interesting, does anyone know when we will be seeing this model. I would assume that it will produce numbers similar to the 2970 N model. Are they using the 1446 finals now or 2290? What type of experience are the owners of the 2995 having? What numbers are you seeing from your radio. What microphone are you getting the best results from? Are you having any power supply heating problems due to no extermal air being introduced to the power supplies? What are you seeing with power on low with RMS and PEP? What are you seeing with power on high with RMS and PEP? Please give a short review of the radio in your time of ownership. |

Sitm, I have the newer 2995dx and it is about a year old now. It has the newer mosfet's. It has a newer designed power supply that has a built in fan. I use the stock mic it came with because I did the NPC mod and it has more than plenty of modulation. The power output is a little less than the 2970n2. I also have the 2970n2. I own nothing bur the RCI dx product's and I could not be any happier with any other product. The frequency coverage and option's are the best. I hope this is what you need to know. |

This should answer several of your questions about the 2995DX- http://www.copperelectronics.com/cgi-bin/discus4/board-auth.cgi?file=/7750/106523.html It's a really interesting read for anyone with, or interested in, a 2995DX. Your radio 'Mythbuster' since 1998

I purchased the 2995 and the 2950 from copper electronics. I have done alot of reading on these two particular radios. Read as many reviews as I could find for the last year. When they changed the power supply to switching and added the cooling fan that was enough. I have been using the radios now for about a week or so. I would have to say that the 2995 is producing more audio than I expected and the comments I am getting are exceptional. I had one local tell me that in 37 years of radio he had never heard a radio with such "studio quality", several others agreed with his comment. The receive is good but my needle readings of people 20 miles or more out doesn't reflect what my other five radios I have in line say. But thats is fine to some extent, I just give the what I believe then are giving. On am I am seeing a 16.75 rms, I have seen pep numbers in the 100s on low. (with regular audio talk) On high I am seeing 90 rms with pep numbers in the high 100s. This digital meter regularly reads pep numbers "low". I really enjoy the 16 memory channels and have them scanning most the time when monitoring only. The r-beep is similar to a nasa beep, I like it, it isn't loud or irritating and have been told that by others. I have been very impressed by the quality of the radio and so far it has met or exceeded my expectations. I am using an Astatic 878 desk mike on this rig after reading several reviews on compatability. It has been a great match so far with my voice. The 2950 is used primarily for ssb duty and I have had several qso's out of conus with ease. After 30+ years in the hobby, I finally made the purchase after hesitating for years, I don't regret it for a minute. I have found that the last week at work when on lunch, I don't brouse the radio market anymore.....why would I. |

I absolutely love my new 2995 DX,i also have a DM 878 with it. It sounds awesome, no over modulation but still loud and really clean!! I also own a 2970N2 and the old skool 2950 (Orange back light) that i purchased almost 20yrs ago and still going strong!! I love it when i get the haters that say there junk when they never owned one LOL!! They can keep there Over modulated, frequency sliding misaligned boat anchors. They get upset when they hear ME 50mi away and cant hear them!! 73s AR #18 |

I just picked up a ranger2995dx about a week ago and all I can say is this is by far one of the worst splash box's I have ever owned and the receive and I keep getting bad audio reports on SSB should have stayed with my magnums45HP for my base radio and the ranger was new in the box why to much $ for what you get I picked up a new alinco HF for less $ and it smokes this thing all the way around |

Sound like to me that the radio is not tuned correctly. A lot of people over tune the modulation on this newer 2995dx. I have seen people tune the radio to do far more than it should. Most likely over driven on power and modulation. I have had mine for a few year's now and I have nothing but good report's and the receive could not be better. |

i gotta agree. thesplashing is most likely caused by clipping the audio limiter.[dumb idea] as for the recieve it could be over tuned. how does the alinco compare to the magnum dale/a.k.a.hotrod cef426 cvc#64 454 [dx numbers] 38lsb

You know what it was all in the tuning this radio was way out of tune i reset the bias and then retuned it and it came to life it is know getting good reports on SSB audio is still lower on SSB but not by much and I changed the psu fan so I will see what happens with it |

I have an older 2995dx and it has been a very good radio for me. Turner plus 3b sounds best on it. I personally have no idea about the newer ones? (Jim) |

Fat guy, I am so glad you had found your problem with your 2995dx. I hope you enjoy your 2995dx as much as I have mine. I would buy another if anything ever happen's to mine. My pick on radio's are the RCI 2970n2---RCI 2995dx---RCI 2950dx---RCI2985dx. These radio's will not drift on ssb. I have found that radio's are like automobile's, sure they can go over a 100 and sure they have a lot of power but if you run them wide open all the time sooner or later they will blow up and something will fail. MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU AND ALL ON THE COPPER FORUM |

I hear this all the time where someone picks up an XYZ on ebay or from a swap meet then get it home and hook it up and are unhappy with the way it performs. Some people go so far as to declare them all to be "junk", or in this case, "one of the worst splash box's I have ever owned". The thing is, unless you bought the radio new, how can you say the 2995DX is bad? The 2995DX is a fantastic radio, the problem with your particular radio was a previous owner or "tech" that was inside the unit. That means your particular 2995DX was bad, not that all 2995DX radios are bad. Your radio 'Mythbuster' since 1998

I have two friends who bought brand new (newer) 2995's and really like them. Overdriving these types of radios for long periods of time can lead to problems. The output finals can only take so much. Esp when a tech or owner turns output power up to far. CEF 375 PA (Jim) |

I have a 2995DX on the air every day 24/7 running CW since 2008. It has never failed. The only thing I have had to do it replace the fan in the switching power supply unit. That was the only time it was ever powered down. Now, THAT is one reliable radio. If the 2995DX ever gets stolen, I'd replace it with another 2995DX from Copper without hesitation. I personally do not own a newer 2995dx. But my older 2995dx has done very well over the years. And like I mentioned above I have a couple friends who own newer 2995's and have told me they love them. If something ever happens to my older 2995dx I would not hestitate to try the newer 2995's... Road Warrior / CEF 375 PA (Jim) Local ch. 27.505 Am or LSB

I've got one of the older 2995's, probably about 10 years old now. Never had any problems with it. I think the only difference in the older ones and the new ones is the power supply. If I ever have power supply problems I'll either put in a switcher type or hook the radio to an external PS. I did that before with one of the old Galaxy Turbos. When I sold the radio I let the power supply go with it. Scrapiron CEF 108 |
