I have heard rumors don't know how true they are is Hygain going to bring back the Penetrator 500 ?

If its true I wonder what the price of it would be.

I sure did like the one I had.

Hy-Gain is now owned by MFJ. You could simply call their toll-free number and ask if it is true or not.

Yes. It is being sold through some of MFJ's established amateur radio dealers. MFJ is not accepting new dealers at this time, so no CB shops carry them. YET!

The antenna is being sold again and several companies has it, the cheapest I've seen it so far is $149.95.

I think everyone who gets this antenna will be more than pleased with it, and it usually out does the most antennas in the vertical class.

I brought a HGP-500 an have it installed, its a great antenna it hears better than my A99 my IMAX and my MACO 5/8, I did side by side testing. If your using it on the 40 channels I think its the best, If your a HAM also it not as broad banded as an A99 or a IMAX.........Oldtimer

"I-10K that it was patterned after"??? Sorry to say you are mistaken sir. It's exactly the opposite of what you're sayin! The 500 was in production WAY before the I-10K.I have an original 500 that I rebuilt with all new SS parts but have yet to stick it up on my tower. Great vertical for sure, but not quite as good as the I-10K,very close, very close, but not the same!!

Yep, the original Penetrator 500 has been around for awhile. I bought my first one in 1975 and used it until a few years ago. It was getting in kinda bad shape and I gave it to a new CB'er till he could do better.
They are good antennas no doubt. However, in my experiences with them, between it and the I-max 2000, you won't see enough difference in TX or RX to matter or even register on a meter. And the Imax will have a larger band coverage plus not as much noise in a rainstorm. That's the way I've seen it anyway.

I remember my step dad, who was a ham, installing a "Penetrator" antenna back in the 1970's when 10m was really hot. He also had a 3 element tri-bander on a 50 foot tower, but used the Penetrator more than the beam.

Back in the 1970's the P500 was very innovative. Today, the Imax 2000 is very innovative. Tomorrow, who knows?

On the same mast, coax & radio I saw almost a full s-unit more when I swapped out the Imax and put up the P500. It was about a 2 year old Imax.
