--Hi. The Midland 5001z looks much like the Cobra 25/Uniden PC68 on the outside. Does anyone know if these two radios are the same on the inside? Just curious, as they are so similar

I purchased one of these radios awhile back. In a mobile application they are very very noisy.

Perfect easy to use no frills radio for my girlfriend. Iopened it up and gave the modulation thing a turn.

Not a screaming radio by any means but works for her. We have talked mobil to mobil about 6 miles barefoot with it.

Update:The Audio in her 5001z has gotten less and less. Now it's like a whisper even when I scream into the mic. Tried a few different mics. Same whisper.

Unsoldered the limiter from the board and it squeels along with a whisper.

Too bad. Nice looking radio.

Replaced the final last night and still no good. :-( It's destined to be a parts radio.
