I've had this radio for 2 1/2 years now and thought I'd post a review of it.

The radio in general seems to be a fairly decent rig with many positive feedback's on audio quality and modulation. I didn't care for the feel of the stock mic - my own preference - so I purchased an Astatic AST878DM from copper, which is a desk power mic. I've gotten good feedback on it as well and should do a review on it too. Some say they thought it was a D-104.

There are many features on the radio which weren't available when I started out in the early 70's, so pleased with them. My previous radio which I still use is a Cobra 142 GTL which I still love and cherish!!

The talk-back feature can be useful although I don't use it much as I get a lot of feedback using the power mic on both AM and SSB. The feedback is much less with the stock mic unless you turn the TB volume up too much.

It does have an annoying delay when letting up on the PTT after transmitting. It's not the mic as it does this with both the stock and the Astatic mic's which cuts off the first word or two of the person your talking to. However I wish people wouldn't respond so quickly anyway to give others a chance to 'break' or 'station'.

The radio has the typical drift during warm-up on SSB, but I don't think there's ever been a radio made that doesn't do this.

The SWR/PWR/S-UNIT meter seems pretty accurate to my Dosy TFC 3001 test center and it as well as the channel selector and Frequency Counter lights are all dim-able down to off, which is great for preserving the lights and is controlled by a knob on the front panel.

It has the Roger Beep, but I don't use it unless someone I'm DX-ing with request I turn it on. The noise filters are pretty typical and I don't use them much either. The GNF - (Galaxy Noise Filter) is pretty dull and cuts a lot of the high/treble out but the radio has a tone control to help bring some of the highs back up.

It does have the 6 digit frequency counter which I don't know why they make a SSB radio with only 5 digits, so this is a plus. I do like the large channel selector knob making changing channels a breeze.

All in all I'm pretty pleased with the radio after using it for 2+ years. Unfortunately there's not a lot of choices out there for an 11 Meter / CB Base Station these days unless you get into the 10 Meter range

Thank You MT908 for the very informative review. I figured that I would add my experiences as well. I have only had my DX-2547 for about 2 months now, but I like it's operation alot. I primarily use it on SSB and it is used just about every day. After using numerous radios over the past 36+ years in the hobby, I find the 2547 to be an excellent radio.

It does have some drift on start up, but I normally leave it on all the time and turn down the volume and turn off the display to conserve the LED's and meter lighting. That way it is always "warmed up" and ready to go.

The microphone that I usually run on the 2547 is an older Astatic 575-M6 amplified hand mic and I sometimes run the Astatic 1104C desk mic as I get excellent reports on the transmitted audio from this series of microphones.

I did perform the receiver mods which do make a noticable difference, made adjustments to get the transmit dead on with the recieve and made a minor adjustment to the frequency counter to coincide exactly with the transmit and receive frequency.

Other than the receiver mods my DX-2547 is basically a stock 40 channel radio with no extras, no switches, nothing clipped and it is an excellent radio on both transmit and receive.

Do the new Galaxy DX 2547 radios have a more stable frequency on SSB than the older models?
