I'm torn between a Maco 5/8 and the Sirio M-400. I live in a hilly area and have heard that a 1/4 wave like the M-400 might work a little better due to the higher radiation angle. I'll be running a extended double zepp for DX, the M-400 or Maco would be for local use only...

Anyone have any thoughts?

Go with a 5/8 wave antenna. I live in a hilly area and the 5/8 wave for me had done far better than the 1/4 or the 1/2 wave antenna's. For me I like the I-max 2000 antenna better than other's for it is more broad band without any adjustment's than the Maco 5000. The maco 5000 does have a little bit better receive. Check out the product review section done by TECH 833. GREAT INFORMATION and it will help you to decide for yourself. I hope this will help you and MERRY CHRISTMAS AND GOD BLESS TO YOU AND YOUR'S

in a hilly area and not a valley the maco would be fine. but like charliebrown suggested check out the Imax 2000 they are much more broad banded if you wanna drop below ch1 or freeband above 40.also the Imax has far less problems over it's life then the maco sometimes the maco can be a little finiky with ice,a lot of moister. i have a maco v5000 a Imax and an antron 99 up right now and like the Imax just a little more but with that being said none of the 3 really have that kick the other to the curb difference

The lower gain antenna is helpful if you are below the peaks of the hilltops. If you see over the tops of the hills, you want the higher gain antenna.
