Same here, hust got my penetrator up today. I have the base just below 150 feet running 200 feet of LMR 400. I posted a photo in the members photo section.

I was a bit surprised that the SWR never drops below 1.2:1, and only holds this for a few channels. Not very wide banded this antenna. I figured at that height with 2oo feet of LMW i would have wide band width with flat SWR...

The antenna might not be the culprit. Did the LMR 400 cable get kinked or bent tight at any point?

If you can climb to the antenna feedpoint, install a known good dummy load at the other end of the cable and sweep it. You can use your radio and SWR meter to do it, just measure SWR on channel 1, channel 20, and channel 40. All should be the same. If not, then the cable is to blame.

well 833, the guy installing the tower made an 8 inch circle coming off, flex tied to the tower, then comes off the tower to the house. Could this have damaged the coax? Other than that, the cable was well packed in a large roll.

833, with this setup, is good SWR on 10 and 11 meters possible?

The Penetrator is a fairly narrow band antenna. It could cover 11m and the very bottom end of 10m, but not much more.

An 8 inch circle isn't too tight, but it's the minimum safe bending radius (in my opinion) of the LMR 400 cable. My question was in regards to handling the cable during installation. Were there any kinks, or was the cable pulled in any way with "loops" in it?

833, the loop is really the only bend. It was well handled, straight out of the box up the tower. According to your last post, I'm probably OK. I'm talking 60 - 70 miles at night no problem whatsoever and getting excellent signal reports. When DX is hot I seem to be one of the strongest out of texas according to others. I hit Australia with ease 2 nights ago so its working! Your assistance as always is appreciated....

thanks Dale, but man does it talk on that tower, I talked to a unit last night 50 miles away in Hillsboro TX, said he was receiving me at S9 swinging into the red. The farthest I've talked in the past few days, local, has been 112 miles. I'm getting lots of kudos on that antenna and my 2980 combo. Height is might!

I have found flex ties can cause depression marks on my feed lines and I stop using them if I had to make them tight enough to hold the weight of a coax run as long as you have.
