Hey Tech181 or 307:
Any chance of seeing a write-up on this antenna? The fiberglass sticks have been getting all the attention. I thought Aluminum is better than a wire or coax inside fiberglass when it comes to antennas.

had antron 99 for about 5 years at 30 feet above ground...bought MACO v - 5/8 antenna..clearer recieve...less noise, general all around great antenna..would definately recommend it for any one that has room for it ( ground radials are a bit long )... would give it 10 + out of 10 ..well worth the money...took me a good hour to put it together and set swr with M F J analyzer, but ALL have said that I sound clearer and better than with antron.

Parkcom you must have gotten one of Macos rare lemons. I know people with V58s that have been in the air close to 10 years and they are still up and working fine.

I have the brother to the Maco V 5/8 the Avanti sigma 5/8. looks like new. I also think the Avanti version is a tad better in that it matches up better and takes less time to get matched in..

I don't know about all that 2990 mine went from "Box to Talks" in about 2 hours. Perfect 1.1 on 1 and 40. I can go 2 bands in either direction and SWR never goes above 2. Probably luck more than any real technical skill on my part but I think its the best omni going today.

I have never delt with any macos but I have talked to people that have them and seem to be happy. Never heard of one bending. Avanti makes some great antennas.

I dont know when but i think Avanti was bought or merged out by Antenna Specialists in about 1982 or so but i DO have a moonraker 4 manual from 1991 and it still says Avanti on the front.. I know that A/S and Avanti both shared some of the very same antenna designs back in the mid 1970s... Maybe someone in the know can chime in here with some more input...
Bruce???? Are you out there?????

Hello to the Forum,
I would like to say that I have had the Maco V58
antenna for 2 years and I like it. Anyway I also had a A99 it was a good antenna until it met Mr. Lightning. The V58 is a quieter antenna the A99
picked up more static which hurt it's ears.
Just my opinion. I hope this is a good post.
