Well they might by the Tc 4001 test set, but mine are slightly different. I guess they are older, I cant find a date on them. I wish I knew how to post a pic of them on here , then everyone could see them.

I had trouble with the Modulation meter on the Dosy TFC 3001. I called the factory and explained my problem and they sent a brand new test center with the power pak. I have never seen this type of service from other manufactures.

Is it a white face Dosy. I have one that is over 15 years old and sounds like yours. It just says Dosy Test Center. It has a headphone jack and a switch on the back to change the 2000 watt scale to 4000 in addition to the SWR, Modulation and Watt Scale knob. The set knob also says RF-phone level.

Those white face dosys are pretty rare, and old. Blackcat had the same meter with their name on it, I have one of those. They are kinda collectors items now. Dosy should have put a warning with their meters long ago, NOT to check modulation with an amplifier running, that'll knock them out pretty quick. But for the price and features, I think they are still the best around. scrapiron

I have an old Dosy Pm 2001 Ts meter that i got used for $30.00 and the mod function has never worked.. Seems it is the first thing that goes in those meters. I though about calling Dosy and having them work on it but then again it would probably cost more than the dumb thing is worth!!! But IMHO for the $$$ Dosy meters cant be beat with a stick. Id rather spend $250.00 for a radio than a bird meter and then have to psend even more $$$ for the slugs. By the time its all said and done a guy can have almost $500.00 in a meter that for the basic CBer is worthless!! I knew a guy that had a shop in a truckstop and he had a bird meter and he spent $550.00 for the meter slugs and pouch to store it in. He used it about 3 months then sold it for $250.00 becasue he got sick of all the truckers and local guys bitching about the meter whenever he put a radio on it to test. He then went back to using a Dosy.... :-)

cm3885,

ive noticed you got a hard on with the birds.haha

warm and fuzzy..................................
some folks would rather be lied to and think there bodatious!

then theres folks that like to know whats really going on......and know there bodatious! :)

but being serious, run what ever is in with what you want your set up to be... if you just want to shoot the shi* with some buddies and dont need/want great acuracy buy a meter that suits that need. if your more serious minded about your radio hobby then buy the meter that suits that need as well.

its that simple there all fine it just depends on your intented use for them that makes the differance.

151 working the heck out of my bird 43p and im back on the mail!

At my shop the saying goes... "would you like to know your real peak and avg watts, or the happy peak watts?"
I love when they come in with their 50w Cobra 29s and 70-90w Galaxy 99s. Their Cobras are generally about 20w peak and the 99s about 30w peak. I've actually made some money by laying a $20 bill on the counter and saying "that's yours if this 29 goes over 25w on my meter". I'll preface the check by taking a basic tuned 29 of mine off the shelf and show about 18-20w peak.
I do have a need for Bird meters because many of my customers run high power. The avg CBers definately does not need a Bird meter. The Synchron meter that Copper sells is a great little meter that will suit most CBers but be aware it reads "AVG" power, not peak. The 3 window Dosy meters seem to read pretty good peak readings.

id venture to bet that 20 is still there on the table when there out the door with those cobra's and galaxy's.
even on peak mode 20watts is kicking butt for a cobra.on rms they fall in around the 6-8 watt range. and the exports 10-12 birdwatts rms for the most part ive seen a few around 15rms but thier hot rods.
i have seen one modified 2950 with a pair of mrf497 finals that had its tx section, and modulation sections re worked that did 30 watts rms on the bird43,it even had a thicker power cable going into it.set at 95% modulation it would do around 56-58peak. with the money spent to get this radio to perform this hot you could buy a 2970 and get much more....

Exactly, I sell alot of KL60s and 203s, and for near the price of what they *would* have paid for that super-mega tune they get a real 50-100w of peak, and it all still runs on the power posts or lighter plug!

questionman.

A white face and a headphone jack and the switch on the back? Now that sounds familiar.

I used to own a Atwater Kent that had all of that too.
