Depends entirely on the amp requirements. If you are running a Excell 125 it will take about 2 watts.A Palomar 400 high drive likes about 7 watts .A Nitro 700 likes about 40 watts. If you are running a straight 12 pill with no driver pills it will require about 100 watts.

I have an old Skeleton 100 and I put a maximum of 2 watts dead key into it.Your dead key is the important number. After the 2 watt dead key you can swing 30-35 watts into it and it loves it.Your 29 probably doesn't have a adjustable power knob on the exterior unless someone has installed one therefore you will have to turn it down internally.

Can I lower the wattage by the meter on the radio or would an external meter be better? Also, how can I make the radio dead key 2 watts and swing higher wattage. As you can tell I'm new to radio modification.Any advice or suggestion's would be welcome.Thank's alot.

Vernonott, How long can my jumper be between my radio and my amp?I have a small pick-up truck with my radio mounted on my cieling and I want to "hide" my amp under my dash if possible.I've heard that the radio and amp need to be as far apart as possible.

You have to know which 29 model you have - LTD or Classic etc.Concerning the jumper you can use 3',6',9'.I prefer the 3' although I have used up to 12'.

6-9 foot jumper will do fine i do this. i have my radio by me and my amp hidden in the back of my truck. get an external meter 2-3 watts will do the amp justice. never go more then recomended. just remember it takes double the wattage to make just 1 s unit higher on your meter!! if you ever upgrade from your 100 watt amp go to at least 350 to see a better increase. never put your amp on top of your radio or ground loops happen aka squeel and bad swr. good luck

You really need a decent meter such as a Dosy in different models median priced at $99.00. Also Yaesu Model YS-60 is a decent meter at $129.99 but it takes 12 volts to operate.Copper sells a Libra model 712 for $84.99.If you plan on being in radio for years to come you'll enjoy a good meter. One of my meters stays in line on the base continuously .The other I use for mobile setups.

Thanks for all the info.My 29 is a 2000 model LTD Classic ,but it's not a soundtracker.I was looking at a PDC 700 for a meter. Also I was looking at getting a new base set-up.I already have an antron 99 around 50 feet in the air and a K1313 150 watt tube type amp.Any suggestions on a good radio to run it with? 73's Snowman

Two of my contacts run K1313 amps and they sound fantastic on my receive. From what I hear and what I've read the new Galaxy DX 2547 is a awesome base station for $284.99 at Copper.I'm not a fan of new Cobra radios of any model as I don't feel that they'll stand up to mods.If you would ask 307 he can tell what to do to turn your radio up.In the old Cobra 29's with uniden boards you could change the final ,tune and peak and many other things and be cleaner and louder than any of the export radios.73's

Thanks vernonott and Honky Tonk Man.Yes the new 2547 looks like a killer rig.I will definetly keep it and the Melaka in mind. Also in my mobile I run a 4ft.Wilson silver load antenna.Do you think the 1000 mag mount or the 2000 trucker is a better antenna? Thanks,Snowman

Personally , I love the 1000 mag mount performance but it will ruin the paint on the top of your vehicle.

well i have a wilson 2000 trucker on copers 3 magnet set up and itll never blow off the roof tested at 125 mph!!! yeah over the years your paint will fade but by then its time for a new car anyway. i recommend the trucker 2000 and the tri magnet mount from copper you wont be dissatisfied. good luck

The price to repair a hole drilled in the roof is between $350 and $450. The price to repair light scratches from the roof is $100-$150. An antenna on a pickup truck will always work best when mounted on the roof.

I have used Wilson's 1000 mag mount and never had any trouble with swr's. Actually the only problem I had was when I took it off the truck and the paint came with it.

Eagle : You are correct.Moisture will get under the magnet and ruin the paint.I know because I run these antennas on two of my vehicles.

I use a radio shack mag mount the one with the big air wound coil with 100 watts on 10 meters. The only problem i have fond was some rf getting back into the car and if i kick on the external speech prosser i get feed back. The rad-shak coil is neet in a way you can short turns like i do to run on 28.40 and 29.6 without cutting it so for thoes who have cb/ham radios you could run both radios off the same ant ( not at the same time ) However some antennas motorola clones are the worst require a ground to work well. On 29.6 several of had a aray of problems getting them to work and finaly had to drill and hard mount them. As for taking the paint off THAT is one HELL of a mag maunt.

First wax the area of your vehicle real good where you plan on putting the antenna. Then take a piece of Saran Wrap or something similar, cut it to fit the base of the antenna and put it between the antenna's magnet and your vehicle. It doesn't affect anything, and it keeps the paint from getting scratched up.

Well I did it I went and bought me two of the trucker 2000's.I love them!!! The only thing is I can't get the swr's below a 1.5.But I guess that's pretty good considering the antenna's mounted on my toolbox right behind my cab.

No,I have one hooked up to my C.B. and the other to my scanner.Would springs make my swr's lower? Could you tell me where I could find a Cobra base station?I would like to get it brand new if possible.
Thanks,

Snowman

That cab is acting just like a door or hood open.It will make the swr somewhat higher ,although 1.5 is fine.Jim Freeman Cb sales recently sold a nearly new Cobra 2000 and I have purchased a couple 142 bases from him.Right now he doesn't have anything but Galaxy Saturns.

How much does the 2000 usually go for? What kind of antenna would you reccommend for an atv.I want to put one on mine but I want one that won't break.

Have the NPC mod done to that radio, you will not be sorry. You will get tons of AUDIO and it will drive the heck out of the amp. That radio is perfect for this mod. You will get like a 2 watt dead key, 13-16 swing on rms meter, and like 20-24 on peak reading meter.
