I asked 307 and he raves about it. Any other 4800 owners out there that can give a review. Im thinking for the price and options, its a better buy than the Galaxy 88 or 99. Does it also have that big sound too!!! Im thinking about changing from the VR9000 purchase to the 4800 DXL. HELP ANYONE!

I guess Im going to have to steer away from this rig. No one here in town owns one and I have gotten 2 negative reviews on channel 19. It also seems like no one in the forum likes them either. I guess IT IS too good to be true. SO SAD, it sure seems like a good rig. OH WELL, back to the VR9000!

I have one since nov.2000. Great talking unit with a stock mike. More channels than i will ever use. Bought it for a base but caught a deal on a DX2517 so the 4800 dxl is in my truck.

I have a 4400hp And my friend has a new 4800 with the long echo. They are both the loudest radios I have heard. I also have a Galaxy 77hml and another friend has a Galaxy 99 and the connex is a little bit louder than them.
The connex 4400hp and the 4800 have the same loudness it seems.

I forgot, you should get a noise cancelling mike with a connex, galaxy, or any "big" radio with dual finals and talkback. I have had good luck with an Astatic L-636, and have had bad luck with Telex RK-56 because of numerous button failures.

I Have a Connex 4800DXL, I have had it for about two years, and it is a great radio, nice recieve, very nice sideband, and has a better sound than my Galaxy 99 did! Great allround radio, has taken a lot of abuse in my desertcruisin truck, and still works fine!

I talk to a buddy who uses one as a base. Nice sounding radio.

It's basically the mobile version of the Galaxy DX2517, so it should perform that well!
